Ange Postecoglou has already said why Everton should sign Brennan Johnson
Brennan Johnson’s move to Everton would get the seal of approval from former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.
Everton face Nottingham Forest in the final game of 2025 on Tuesday night, before attention turns to business in the January window.
Aside from James Garner being linked with Man United, and Adam Aznou already mooted for an exit, the Toffees have also been linked with a handful of incomings.
The priority will be to strengthen their forward options, and Johnson, having now been linked with Everton, would be the perfect candidate if Postecoglou’s words are anything to go by.
Johnson has a special quality that Everton lack
Iliman Ndiaye aside, Everton are lacking in the goalscoring department, with neither Thierno Barry nor Beto looking as though they are going to provide the goods consistently.
Now, with the absence of Ndiaye, Everton have failed to score in any of their previous three, and if they do the same against Forest, it would be a 19-year low for the Toffees.
That makes the addition of a goalscorer a necessity in January, and Postecoglou has previously hailed Johnson’s ability to be that, and for the reported £35million pricetag, it would be a no-brainer.
Last season, after Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Southampton, he said: “I was really pleased for him, not just goals, but his general play was really good. He’s important for us. As a wide player, there aren’t many around that are a constant goal threat like he is.
“With Brennan, he’s always in the areas we need him to be. He’s probably one of the most disciplined players we have in terms of making sure he’s always in the right positions, and that’s why he gets his goals.”
If Everton can seal the deal, they will benefit massively from those attributes.
Who else have Everton been linked with in January?
Given the need for a new number nine, it comes as no surprise to see the Toffees linked with several of them.
Artem Dovbyk of Roma has been linked with a move to the Premier League, having somewhat fallen out of favour in Italy.
Beto could move in the oppsootite direction in a move that would make sense for all parties.
Away from that, Conor Gallagher has also been linked with Everton as David Moyes eyes more midfield depth for the second half of the campaign.
Like Dovbyk, he too has fallen out of favour at his current club, with a January exit not beyond the realms of possibility.
