Everton now face uphill battle to keep James Garner after ‘fantastic’ David Moyes claim

James Garner deserves all the interest he can get at Everton in the winter transfer window after beating Nottingham Forest.

David Moyes’ team won at the City Ground on 30 December, with the midfielder scoring the opener in the 2-0 victory.

Garner’s contract talks at the Hill Dickinson Stadium are expected to intensify after another brilliant performance for the Toffees against the Tricky Trees.

With the Englishman set to enter the final year of his deal at the Merseyside outfit next summer, it makes sense for them to secure his future, but there’s certainly a fear that the 24-year-old could leave L4 sooner rather than later.

James Garner wanted by Manchester United after Everton heroics

Garner made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester United before moving to the Toffees in 2022.

The midfielder was seen as one of the most promising prospects at Old Trafford, and his time on loan at Forest convinced the Blues to sign him.

Man United now want Garner back in January, with the Red Devils exploring a potential deal for their academy product.

Speaking after the win at the City Ground, Moyes said, “He was fantastic, Jimmy. I think his goal was terrific, it was a good pass through by Dwight [McNeil], and he finished it well.”

Moyes would certainly like to see Garner stay for the long term, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Merseysiders needing a replacement for him soon.

Considering the Englishman’s links to Old Trafford, the Scottish manager may face an uphill battle to convince him not to rejoin the three-time Champions League winners.

James Garner sacrifice may be needed after latest transfer news at Hill Dickinson Stadium

The Friedkin Group aren’t expected to invest heavily at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January, with the Toffees only expected to pursue loan deals.

Everton have a massive problem with their goalscoring exploits, and while Thierno Barry scored his second goal of the season against Forest, the Frenchman and Beto haven’t been good enough.

The Blues should look for a quality striker capable of finding the back of the net consistently to boost their hopes of getting into Europe, but that will undoubtedly cost a hefty sum.

If a considerable offer arrives for Garner in the coming weeks, the Merseyside outfit could potentially have a decision to make, as the money can be reinvested in other areas of the pitch.
