Seriously worrying news for Beto as damning Everton reveal emerges

David Moyes has been struggling to decide who should play up front in his Everton side.

Beto started the season as the first-choice centre forward for the Toffees, but 10 games into the campaign, Thierno Barry took his place in the starting lineup.

Barry joined Everton from Villarreal over the summer, but didn’t score in his first 16 appearances for the Toffees, finally breaking his duck against Nottingham Forest at the start of December.

Moyes decided to give Beto a chance from the start in last Saturday’s draw with Burnley, but the 27-year-old was back on the bench as the Toffees beat Forest for the second time in a month on Tuesday evening.

Thierno Barry has one huge advantage over Beto

Barry scored his second goal for Everton as they secured a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, in what was their last game of 2025.

Forest are still the only team the Frenchman has found the net against since his summer move to the Premier League.

However, Barry still has a better goal return than Beto this season, as the Guinea-Bissau international has only scored once across the whole campaign.

In an even more damning indictment of Beto’s poor form, Everton have only won two out the nine Premier League games that he has started this season.

In contrast, the Toffees have won six of the 10 top-flight games in which Barry has led the line from the start.

Even with both of his frontmen having a hard time in front of goal, Moyes can surely see that Barry offers far more to the team than Beto, and will continue to stick with the Frenchman.

Is it time for Everton to offload Beto?

Beto has been linked with a move away from Everton in recent times, and there is no doubt that his future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is looking bleak.

The 27-year-old has never really offered enough since his move from Udinese in the summer of 2023, with his finishing often leaving much to be desired.

He did manage eight Premier League goals last season, a respectable return for a lower-half team, but if Everton have real ambitions of reaching Europe, then they need a striker with the ability to hit double figures at the very least.

It’s time for the Merseyside outfit to offload Beto and bring in a proven goalscorer in the January window to fire them up the table, as well as helping Barry develop.
