Everton to follow Premier League trend with three new January signings wanted – Expert
Everton enter the January transfer window after a solid first half of the Premier League, looking to push towards Europe rather than relegation.
David Moyes has the Toffees looking up, with Everton’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest last time out leaving them eighth, two points off the top five.
Everton want up to three new signings in January, with injuries and other issues taking their toll.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is injured, while Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye remain away with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.
What signings will Everton make in January?
Dan Plumley has insisted that loan signings remain most likely at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The football finance expert admits the trend of Premier League clubs spending big remains in the summer, with “big plans” always kept behind, rather than being used midway through the season.
“You look at the history and the numbers in the transfer market, and you can track this back years,” Plumley exclusively told Goodison News.
“It’s inevitably much lower spending in January, particularly those in relegation battles tend to spend more, but it’s really low numbers in comparison to the summer; it always has been.
“Again, for a club like Everton at the moment, they’ve had a solid first half of the season, there’s a chance maybe for Europe, but you’ve got to look over your shoulder as well.
“In this particular month, they’re probably looking at loans to strengthen, but you want to save your big plans always for the summer, and that’s what most clubs do.
“I think the numbers will tell us that again at the end of January.”
Who could Everton sign in January?
Everton have been linked with several new transfers already in January.
Roma’s Artem Dovbyk tops that list, with a new striker wanted behind Thierno Barry and possibly to replace the failing Beto.
Kobbie Mainoo
Kalvin Phillips
Ivan Toney
Vitinho
Ruben Vargas
Botafogo right-back, Vitinho, is one who is likely most needed, given the struggles of Seamus Coleman, Jake O’Brien and Nathan Patterson for form, consistency and fitness.
Either way, the Friedkins look set to be busy this month.
