Everton told to sign Nathan Ake ‘tomorrow’ after what’s been said away from Manchester City
Everton could make a January swoop to land Nathan Ake from Manchester City.
Ake has been a long-term target at Everton after years performing primarily as a bit-part player under Pep Guardiola.
David Moyes and Everton could provide Ake with regular minutes in the Premier League after making just two starts in the competition this season.
The Toffees are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements, especially after Everton fell to a 4-2 defeat against Brentford last time out at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Merseyside could prove to be Ake’s landing destination this winter, especially after former Blues boss Ronald Koeman spoke out.
Nathan Ake needs regular minutes to boost Netherlands chances
The ex-Toffees boss is now the manager of the Dutch national team and is preparing to move into a World Cup with his side.
Koeman has called out Ake for a lack of minutes, suggesting he needs to feature more regularly to claim his spot in the tournament squad.
The Man City defender has revealed this insight, telling the Manchester Evening News: “[Koeman] has said to me a few times actually that he wants me to play more and sometimes it is difficult to call me up if I don’t play a lot, that’s obvious.“
That update from the versatile defender could open the door for Moyes to step in and make the 30-year-old an Everton player this winter.
Everton urged to sign Ake by David Moyes ally
The Blues are in need of new defensive options after such a disappointing performance against Brentford at Bramley-Moore.
The experience of Ake on a potential cut-price deal this month could prove to be exactly what the Toffees need to shore up their backline for the second half of the season.
Koeman’s influence could have an impact, with former Everton scout Bryan King urging his pal Moyes to bring the Netherlands international to Merseyside in January.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “I’d go for Ake if I were Everton, I would go for him.
“Koeman knows Everton because he worked there and it would do him good to get five or six months of minutes before the World Cup.
“He’s more than capable of playing for the Netherlands, probably alongside Virgil van Dijk in defence.
“He’d be a good signing for Everton. I’d have him tomorrow, and I think he’d be a big asset for Everton Football Club.“
The signing would clearly go down well in circles surrounding the Blues, so there is seemingly little reason not to make the deal happen.
