Everton vs Wolves postponement latest as Met Office issue new warning and Storm Goretti update
Everton will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Brentford when they welcome Wolves to Merseyside on Wednesday.
However, fresh weather warnings issued by the Met Office have cast doubt over whether that game will go ahead.
It wasn’t that long ago when the Toffees had to deal with a game being called off due to the weather.
Everton’s Merseyside Derby against Liverpool was postponed last season due to worries about the safety of supporters going to Goodison Park on that day.
And now, the upcoming Premier League fixtures this week are in doubt with widespread ice and snow warnings across England, as well as the arrival of Storm Goretti.
Yellow ice warnings and new snow warnings
Everton welcome Wolves to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Wednesday night, trying to right the wrongs of their last Premier League fixture when David Moyes’ men lost 4-2 to Brentford.
Wolves are also looking up after winning for the first time in the league this season against West Ham at the weekend.
But the Premier League fixtures this week look set to be in doubt, with the Met Office issuing yellow ice warnings across England on Wednesday morning.

While the game itself won’t be played under a warning, with Merseyside not yet a concern for meteorologists, it goes without saying that the match will be played in cold conditions, and areas around the Hill Dickinson Stadium might not be deemed safe.
Everton’s playing surface should survive the cold due to the under-pitch heating, but as seen in the EFL recently, conditions outside the stadiums are just as vital as those inside.
| Venue | Kick-off | Date | Weather forecast | |
| Everton vs Wolves | Hill Dickinson Stadium | 7:30pm | 7 January | 5°, 20% chance of rain |
While the game looks as though it’ll be on as normal right now, we’ve seen in the last week or so that the weather can change quickly, so Evertonians should keep their eyes peeled for any updates.
What about FA Cup Third Round fixtures?
As it stands, there are no weather warnings in place on Saturday when Everton take on Sunderland at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.
The weather forecast in Liverpool on Saturday is sunny spells and temperatures around 4°.
However, there’s a chance that Friday night’s fixtures could be affected, with yellow snow warnings in place across central parts of England and the majority of Wales, lasting until midday.
Port Vale versus Fleetwood and Wrexham versus Nottingham Forest both take place in the affected areas, and due to them not having the state-of-the-art facilities that Everton have, there’s a chance that those FA Cup games could fall victim to the weather.
