Mike Dean instantly reacts to huge controversy in Everton draw vs Wolves: ‘100%’

Michael Keane was rightly sent off as Everton drew 1-1 against Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday, Mike Dean says.

Rob Edwards’ team secured a point at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 7 January, with Mateus Mane equalising for the visitors, who took control of the game after the break and got their reward in the 69th minute.

Keane could’ve scored a second against Wolves, but his header in the first half came off the upright as the Toffees were unable to take advantage of their ascendancy in the game.

The Blues were all over the place in the second half, with the hosts ending the game with nine men after Thomas Kirk showed two red cards.

Michael Keane deserved sending off in Everton vs Wolves

Keane can’t pull Tolu Arokodare’s hair and expect to stay on the pitch.

In the 80th minute, the on-field referee was advised to have a look at the incident by VAR and subsequently handed the English defender his marching orders at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Kirk confirmed Keane was sent off for violent conduct, which means the centre-back will also face a three-match ban.

Speaking on Sky Sports on 7 January, Dean said, “It’s 100 per cent. You can’t pull a player’s hair. As the Wolves players jumped up to head the ball, Keane was behind him, and the referee couldn’t see because he couldn’t look through the players. Keane’s got a big chunk of his hair, and as he jumps up, he pulls his hair down. It has to be a sending-off. 100 per cent correct decision.”

Wolves fans also appealed for a penalty after an incident between James Tarkowski and Ladislav Krejci in the 46th minute, but the defender’s contact with the opposition player was arguably accidental.

The Toffees sit 12th in the Premier League table, and losing points against the side at the bottom should undoubtedly be embarrassing for them.

David Moyes sack decision to be reevaluated at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Moyes is expected to stay in charge of Everton this season and the next, but The Friedkin Group may have to rethink that stance.

While the American owners have to take some blame for their lack of investment in the squad during the summer transfer window, the performances in recent weeks under the Scottish manager have been underwhelming.

Edwards was clearly able to out-think Moyes in the second half, with Wolves in control after a little tweak at the break, with Andre coming on for Jhon Arias.

While results elsewhere have gone in the Merseyside outfit’s favour, with fifth-place Brentford just four points ahead, the Scottish manager needs to find consistency in L4 to secure a European spot in the league.
