Jordan Pickford called out for what he’s done as Everton urged to sign new goalkeeper

Everton star Jordan Pickford has come under fire a string of poor performances.

The Toffees have struggled in recent weeks, with Everton’s 1-1 draw with Wolves just the tip of the iceberg at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Michael Keane and Jack Grealish were sent off against Wolves to make it just one win in six for David Moyes’ side.

Everton conceded four against Brentford and one to the Old Gold, taking their tally to 25 for the season, which the defence has to take the blame for.

Pickford has largely avoided criticism on Merseyside over the years, but has now been singled out for his failings in between the sticks.

Jordan Pickford slammed for Everton complacency

Pickford has been important for Everton over the years and has stuck by the Blues through some truly dreadful periods.

The keeper has still managed to maintain his spot as number one for England and never forced a move away from Merseyside.

That shouldn’t exclude him from disapproval in L4 if he performs at a level below the required standards.

Former Everton scout Bryan King has slammed Pickford for his recent performances, suggesting that a new goalkeeper signing is required to end his complacency.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “I think they should be looking for defenders, don’t you?

I know they’ve got England’s number one keeper, but he has trouble with crosses. Everybody is looking for your keeper to come.

I think he needs livening up. He’s got no competition at that football club, he’s on his own.

Whoever they do have isn’t exactly pushing him, and he’s getting complacent.

He’s England’s number one, and defensively, Everton have been pulled all over the place.

It ain’t the strikers who are the problem at the moment, it is the defenders.

Everton could make signing to replace Pickford

Having made 340 appearances for the Toffees, it feels increasingly unlikely that Moyes would look to directly replace Pickford.

Marc Travers came in over the summer, but is destined to remain as a second or even third choice option for the coming years.

A new shot stopper could be brought in to act as stronger competition for the Englishman and potentially provide him with more motivation after nine years on Merseyside.

It will be interesting to see how Moyes assesses the situation in January and beyond, should the keeper continue to frustrate fans.
