Tony Bellew rages at Everton ‘disgrace’ vs Wolves as conspiracy theory put forward
Tony Bellew shared the sentiment held by many Everton fans after their game against Wolves on Wednesday evening.
Everton drew 1-1 with Wolves at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Michael Keane’s early opener cancelled out by Mateus Mane’s second-half strike.
However, controversy then broke out as Keane was sent off for supposedly pulling the hair of Tolu Arokodare as the pair jumped up for a header.
Moyes’ side were then reduced to nine men as Jack Grealish was dismissed after sarcastically applauding referee Thomas Kirk, but the Toffees were able to hold onto a point despite the disadvantage.
Tony Bellew slams referee for Everton dismissals
Moyes was furious at the decision to send Keane off, insisting that the centre-back had not deliberately pulled Arokodare’s hair.
Everton fan and Bellew was in agreement with the Scot, criticising the officiating during the contest.
In a post on X, the former boxer added that referee Kirk came into the game with an “agenda” and should be held to account for his performance.
He said: “Two red cards! One for holding a man’s hair and another for applauding a correct decision!
“That referee needs to be held to account today! Disgrace! Turned up with an agenda 100%. Var is useless.”
Bellew also attached a video of Hwang Hee-chan’s challenge on Harrison Armstrong, with the Wolves man only avoiding a red card despite raking his studs down the back of the teenager’s calf.
Everton have deeper problems than referee decisions
Despite being on the wrong end of several controversial refereeing decisions, Everton’s current problems stem far deeper than that.
Moyes recently had to recall Armstrong from his loan at Preston with a number of players unavailable, and the 18-year-old was handed a start against Wolves.
While he performed relatively well, the fact that he has been thrust straight into Premier League football proves that the Toffees are struggling without the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye.
Everton have now won just one of their last six games, and the loss of key players has badly exposed their lack of squad depth.
Moyes will be hoping that he is backed in the January transfer market, otherwise the Merseyside outfit could see their season fizzle out.
