Gary Lineker baffled after what he saw in Everton draw vs Wolves – ‘Ludicrous’

Michael Keane was fuming after Thomas Kirk sent the Everton defender off against Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The centre-back was given his marching orders in the 83rd minute after VAR advised the on-field referee to have a look at a hair-pull on Tolu Arokodare.

Keane would’ve hoped for some reprieve after an FA appeal, but the panel have dismissed the Toffees’ request.

Rob Edwards got the better of David Moyes in the second half at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 7 January, but the Blues may feel a bit aggrieved by the English defender’s dismissal.

Michael Keane sending off doesn’t make sense in Everton draw vs Wolves

Gary Lineker was baffled to see Keane being shown a red card for his actions in the 1-1 draw.

The former England international termed the decision “ludicrous” and believes the 32-year-old’s accidental hair-pull at the Hill Dickinson Stadium shouldn’t have led to a sending off.

Moyes now has to cope without the centre-back for three games, whose actions were deemed violent conduct.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football on 9 January, Lineker said, “Did you see the sending off? He wasn’t really pulling his hair, was he? He jumped up, and his hand went on his hair. All he did was jump to try and get the ball, and probably accidentally pulled two strands of his hair. It was ludicrous.”

Lineker’s views differ from several others, with former Premier League referee Mike Dean terming Keane’s red card 100 per cent right.

While the defender will argue his case, pulling a player’s hair will, in most cases, arguably lead to similar punishment.

David Moyes under pressure after Friedkin Group sack stance

The Friedkin Group aren’t looking to get rid of Moyes, but there’s growing apathy among the Hill Dickinson Stadium faithful.

Everton are only four points behind fifth-place Brentford and have made evident progress since last season, but fans have been left frustrated by some of the performances this season.

Edwards completely out-played the Scottish manager tactically by replacing Jhon Arias with Andre at the break, leaving some supporters conflicted about the 62-year-old head coach.

While TFG seem to have Moyes’ back, there will certainly be growing pressure from fans in L4 if the inconsistent displays continue.
