Everton backed to terminate Merlin Rohl’s loan after what David Moyes’ ex-ally spotted
Everton could send Merlin Rohl back to Freiburg immediately after a poor loan spell so far.
Rohl joined Everton on deadline day in the summer, but has seriously struggled to make a positive impact at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The German has been given a bit-part role by David Moyes when fit, as early-season injury problems hampered Rohl’s start to life on Merseyside.
Rohl could already be done at Everton, given how far he’ll have to step up if he is to reach the required level of the Premier League.
The Toffees have a loan-to-buy deal with Freiburg for Rohl, but have now been urged to call it quits before splashing out on a permanent move.
Everton urged to cancel Merlin Rohl loan early
Rohl started and was poor against Sunderland in an overall disappointing performance that saw the Toffees exit the FA Cup.
Featuring against the Black Cats was a chance for the 23-year-old to prove himself, but he struggled and didn’t leave a lasting impression.
The midfielder may have room to grow, but with a £20million buy requirement at the end of his temporary deal, it would be a risk to sign him permanently.
Former Everton scout Bryan King has warned his old boss Moyes against signing Rohl, urging the Blues to call time on his loan immediately.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “I wouldn’t be interested in making him permanent.
“If there were a chance to send him back now, I would.
“He hasn’t fulfilled what they thought he was going to do, so he might be there until the summer, but I wouldn’t even think about signing him, not for £20m.

“He hasn’t performed, he’s looked very ordinary and against Sunderland, he would have struggled to get into their team.
“He’s an example of poor recruitment.“
Everton can spend saved Rohl fee on Jack Grealish
Everton aren’t blessed with massive wealth, so spending £20m on a fringe player feels like a silly decision from Moyes and Co.
That sort of fee could prove to be the perfect base to put together an offer for Manchester City in the hope of making Jack Grealish a permanent Blue.

Rohl’s may have room to grow and could hit the heights of the Man City man on Merseyside, but represents a much bigger risk.
The England international’s loan spell has been far better than the German’s, so it would make much more sense to utilise those funds in that deal.
