Alan Myers reacts to Beto cameo vs Leeds United as Everton exit on cards

Beto came on as a late substitute as Everton drew 1-1 against Leeds United in the Premier League on Monday.

Daniel Farke’s team secured a point at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after taking the lead in the first half through James Justin.

David Moyes was able to rely on Thierno Barry to score, with the French youngster finding the back of the net with a brilliant finish in the 76th minute.

The former Villarreal star was substituted in the 89th minute for the Guinea-Bissau international, who has been linked with a move away before the 2 February deadline.

Beto may leave Everton after falling down pecking order

Alan Myers believes that Beto’s cameo against Leeds had “all the hallmarks” of a player who could potentially be on his way out sooner rather than later.

While the former Sky Sports journalist reveals that there’s interest in the centre-forward, it wouldn’t make sense for Moyes to sell him at the Hill Dickinson Stadium without a replacement.

The 27-year-old has started just eight games in the Premier League this season, with Barry clearly the first-choice number nine for the Scottish manager.

Writing in Everton.News on 27 January, Myers said, “I still believe another striker is needed. I couldn’t help but think that Beto’s very late appearance had all the hallmarks of a player who may well depart in this window. There is certainly interest in the 27-year-old, but unless a more suitable replacement is found, I can’t see Moyes allowing departures, especially in an area that is a clear weakness.”

Juventus have expressed interest in Beto, but the Toffees rejected a loan offer from the Serie A giants.

With the Guinea-Bissau international one of only two natural strikers at the Merseyside outfit, The Friedkin Group should look to add more attacking depth in L4 rather than sanctioning an exit.

Perfect Beto replacement already on Hill Dickinson Stadium shortlist

Beto’s agent was spotted in Istanbul to hold talks with Fenerbahce, but the Super Lig outfit were unable to come to an agreement with the Toffees.

Everton have been linked with Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku, but a potential homecoming will have to wait until the summer.

The Belgium international would arguably be the perfect replacement for the former Udinese striker at the Blues and will be able to impart valuable knowledge to Barry.

While the 32-year-old is past his prime, age and injuries may have taken a toll on him, the former Chelsea and Manchester United attacker will surely be a sensational signing for the Merseyside outfit.
