Premier League officials slammed as David Moyes harshly sanctioned in Everton draw
Everton’s late 1-1 draw with Brighton has proved to be controversial.
Beto secured a last-gasp equaliser for the Blues in the seventh minute of added time on 31 January.
David Moyes could not contain his reaction and was booked, but Keith Hackett believes that the punishment was harsh.
The ex-PGMOL chief has criticised Premier League officials after what happened on the south coast after the Merseysiders secured a point.
Hackett speaks out after David Moyes scenes vs Brighton
Moyes was cautioned after dancing on the pitch after the Blues levelled the game in the closing stages at the AMEX Stadium.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “There is an inconsistent approach by the officials of the PGMOL with regard to the application of the law around the technical area.
“The law states that occupants must behave in a responsible manner, must remain within its confines except in special circumstances, e.g. a physiotherapist/doctor entering the field of play, with the referee’s permission, to assess an injured player.
“Week in week out, we see managers standing outside the technical area and on odd occasions running down the touchline to celebrate a goal.
“They do this often without receiving a sanction, experienced Manager David Moyes is over exuberant when his side scores a goal.
“Given recent performances of his team he was clearly delighted to see his side score, I do think that a stern warning should be applied rather than him receiving a yellow card.”
Everton’s issues with the PGMOL explained
Just this season the Blues have had plenty of issues with the PGMOL.
In the first two matches of the campaign, the Toffees had penalties for handball awarded against them, both of which were very harsh.
Then, Moyes had a meeting with the body that oversees the referees due to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall being suspended after picking up five bookings, at least one of which was extremely soft.
In December, the Scotsman revealed his frustration again after Thierno Barry was not awarded a penalty, but Fulham received a similar one in the same gameweek.
There are no indications that decisions will start going the L4 side’s way though, so there may be more conflict with the officiating body before the campaign is over.
