Partner of Everton star reveals promises and agreements after transfer developments overnight

Dwight McNeil will remain at Everton until at least the end of the season after his proposed move to Crystal Palace broke down on deadline day.

McNeil looked set to join Palace for £20million, after the Eagles made an approach for the winger in the closing stages of the winter transfer window.

However, as the 7:00 pm deadline passed, the Englishman was still no closer to completing his switch to South London.

It was eventually revealed that the move had collapsed and that McNeil would be staying at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Dwight McNeil was victim of broken promises

McNeil has struggled at Everton this season, starting just seven Premier League games all season, with the majority of those coming as a result of others being unavailable for selection.

On the rare occasions that the former Burnley man has found himself on the pitch, he has been criticised for his poor performances.

A move to Crystal Palace seemed to be a chance for McNeil to rediscover his spark, but that opportunity has been snatched away from him.

In a post on Instagram, the winger’s partner shared a number of “cruel” stories detailing exactly what he had gone through in the final hours of deadline day.

She revealed that McNeil had been “dragged along an emotional rollercoaster”, with promises and agreements made, before being taken away.

Dwight McNeil story

McNeil’s partner insinuates that there was a four-and-a-half year contract offer on the table from Palace before the Eagles pulled out of the deal, giving no explanation.

What now for Dwight McNeil?

McNeil will now remain at Everton until the end of the season, where he has dropped back down the pecking order after the return of Iliman Ndiaye from the Africa Cup of Nations.

It is a disappointing outcome for the 26-year-old, who still has a year and a half left on his current contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

For now, the former Burnley man will continue his career on Merseyside and try to force his way back into the team.

McNeil may get a few more opportunities to prove himself under David Moyes before the end of the season, but he will surely depart in the summer if nothing drastic happens.
