Everton told why Evan Ferguson hasn’t made Hill Dickinson Stadium transfer – it’s not TFG
Evan Ferguson is a player that Everton have been linked with in recent transfer windows.
Ferguson was again linked with a move to Everton in the recent winter window, as David Moyes desperately searched for a striker to sign over the last few weeks.
Everton did sign Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea on deadline day, adding a versatile forward to Moyes‘ squad.
However, George was the only signing Everton made this winter, as Moyes must now work with what he’s got to try and push the Toffees towards a top half finish at least.

Alan Myers drops Evan Ferguson, Everton transfer truth
Despite the fact George can operate as a centre-forward, he is a winger by trade, and as such, many Everton fans will feel as though the striker position hasn’t truly been addressed at all this winter.
Ferguson, on the other hand, is an out-and-out number nine, and burst onto the scene for Brighton in the 2022-23 season when he scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 25 total appearances.
Since then, however, the 21-year-old hasn’t quite lived up to the hype and expectation that was placed on his shoulders, as many tipped him to go right to the very top of the game.
Of course, he still very much could just that, with time firmly on his side, and he has been enjoying a solid loan spell with Italian giants Roma this season.

As such, there are some Everton fans that were asking the question about why the Toffees didn’t get a deal done with Brighton for his signature this winter, and journalist Alan Myers has answered that.
Responding to a question via Everton News from someone asking whether the Friedkin Group could’ve done a deal for Ferguson, Myers said: “I think that one has been visited a few times. I just think the player has other ideas.”
Friedkin Group had major Ferguson conundrum
The Friedkin Group (TFG), fronted by Dan Friedkin, own Roma as well as Everton, and that created a real dilemma for them this winter regarding Ferguson.
Roma are desperately pushing for a top four finish in Serie A this season, and with the Republic of Ireland international providing five goal contributions in 16 league appearances, he has become an important player for them.
Therefore, with TFG having a major interest in Roma’s fortunes as well as Everton’s, they won’t have wished to weaken Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad by terminating Ferguson’s loan just so they could try and poach him for Everton.
That would also surely reflect pretty poorly on them as owners, as the debate of player trading between multi-club-owned teams continues to be one of the biggest talking points in football at the moment.
