Everton star Jack Grealish sends the love to Dele Alli as return appears close

Dele Alli has been a free agent since last summer, but the former Everton star may now be close to a return to football.

Alli’s contract with Everton expired in the summer of 2024, having initially joined the Toffees in January 2022.

However, Alli would struggle to make an impact in his first few months as an Everton player, and would spend the 2022-23 campaign out on loan with Besiktas.

With no future for him on Merseyside, Alli signed a contract with Serie A side Como in January of last year, six months after leaving Everton.

Jack Grealish responds to cryptic Dele Alli post

But, things didn’t go to plan for him in Italy either, with Alli being sent off in his only appearance for Como against AC Milan in March last year.

The 37-cap England international was then made a free agent last summer, and still only 29-years old, still appears set on continuing his footballing career.

Grealish has shown support to Alli on social media before, and the injured Everton winger has done so again this week.

Posting to his Instagram account on Friday, Alli posted a collection of images of himself, predominantly of him working out in the gym, but also a couple of him on the grass training with boots on.

He captioned the post with the words: “Do what makes you happy”, which could well suggest that he’s on the verge of making a return to action somewhere.

Grealish responded to Alli’s post by sending a blue heart emoji, as well as the love heart hands emoji, showcasing that the two still have a close bond with one another.

Everton could hand Alli training opportunity

Given how little football he’s played over the last few years, it’s probably unlikely that Everton would be willing to sign Alli to a contract at this moment in time.

However, the Toffees may see no harm in offering him the chance to return to Finch Farm and train with the first-team squad for a little while, to potentially speed up his sharpness and fitness levels whilst he waits for a new opportunity.

Naturally, that would also give David Moyes and Everton chiefs the chance to assess where Alli is at, and even if it meant they still didn’t sign him, they could provide an up to date reference for him to another interested club.
