Everton in position for bargain Marcos Senesi transfer after events at Bournemouth

Everton have been linked with a move for Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Despite having a positive first half of the season, Everton received a big blow when loanee Jack Grealish suffered a serious injury in January.

That meant David Moyes‘ side had to act in the winter transfer window, something Everton did with the loan capture of Chelsea winger Tyrique George.

Everton backed that up with a smash-and-grab win at Fulham on Saturday, lifting fans’ hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

If they do achieve that goal, they will need to add more strength in depth to their squad, and now it seems they have their eyes set on Bournemouth’s Senesi.

Everton sense Marcos Senesi opportunity after contract rejections

It was reported in December that Bournemouth centre-back Senesi had rejected multiple contract offers and is expected to leave on a free transfer when his current terms expire this summer.

The 28-year-old can sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas teams, with several “major clubs” monitoring the Argentina international’s situation.

Now, journalist Mirko Di Natale has reported via X that Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester United have enquired about Senesi, while Juventus are also making moves to recruit him.

Di Natale, who has 33,500 followers on X and writes for Tutto Juve, states that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race for his signature, along with Roma and Crystal Palace.

Prem table Everton

Senesi has made 24 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth this season, claiming four assists along the way.

The Cherries sold centre-backs Dean Huijsen and Ilya Zabarnyi to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain respectively for a combined figure of £107million last summer.

Now, it seems, the south coast club, who sold star player Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City in January for £62.5m, will lose another important defender, this time in 2026.

Everton face contract dilemma amid Senesi pursuit

A move for Senesi makes sense as Everton don’t have that much strength in depth in their defence beyond this season.

Indeed, former Burnley defender Michael Keane has featured heavily this season, but he is 33 and is out of contract this summer.

Veteran right-back Seamus Coleman, 38, is also in the last few months of his Everton deal, as is left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, 26.

With Jarrad Branthwaite being in and out of the team through injury, defensive reinforcements this summer are a must.

Coleman is likely to retire in the not-so-distant future and there may not be the appetite to extend the deals of Keane and Mykolenko.

As Everton target European football again, the Toffees need to get their recruitment spot on this summer, a task that may be helped with signings if they can qualify for the Europa League or Conference League for 2026-27.
