David Moyes drops update on future of Seamus Coleman that every Everton fan will love

Seamus Coleman could be entering his final few months as an Everton player.

Coleman is out of contract with Everton in the summer and has only made three Premier League appearances this season.

Now 37, Coleman signed a one-year extension in June 2025, which tied him down for a remarkable 17th season as a Toffees player.

But injuries have started to become a problem for Coleman in recent times, with his age now starting to catch up with him in that regard.

David Moyes makes Seamus Coleman admiration clear

Given his age and lack of playing time over the last few seasons, many have predicted that Coleman will eventually move into a coaching role in the near future.

Having first joined Everton all the way back in 2009 from Sligo Rovers, the evergreen right-back has undoubtedly cemented himself as an all-time Toffees great.

As such, when the day inevitably comes for Coleman to hang up his boots, it’s going to be an emotional day in the blue half of Merseyside.

Naturally, everyone connected with the Toffees will be hoping the Irishman will remain with the club in some capacity, and David Moyes is no different.

As quoted by Liverpool Echo reporter Joe Thomas, Moyes has made it clear that he wants Coleman to stay on with Everton in any way, shape, or form possible beyond this summer.

“We want Seamus to be around us, whether he’s a player or whether he is on the staff or whether he’s a groundsman,” Moyes said.

“Seamus is too important to this club. The club owes Seamus so much.”

One Everton department in particular could suit Coleman perfectly

Coleman has made it known that he’s interested in becoming a coach in the future and was awarded his UEFA B License in 2020.

And, there is one area of Everton Football Club that could suit him down to the ground: youth development.

There aren’t too many Everton players who command more respect and admiration than Coleman, and for young players coming through, he would be a perfect role model to learn from.

Not only has he always been a model professional who could help impress upon the importance of that side of the game to young players, but he’s also sure to be a fountain of knowledge given the playing career he’s enjoyed.

So, perhaps working with the academy or in charge of one of their youth teams could be a role that’s made for Coleman, as the future of Everton’s young players would be in very safe hands.
