Everton eye ‘one of the best deals of the decade’ as Friedkins want Marcos Senesi

Everton have showcased an interest in signing Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth.

Senesi was linked to Everton in January, but a deal for a new defensive option never materialised at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

There wasn’t much of a focus on new faces for the backline on Merseyside over the winter, as someone like Romelu Lukaku was targeted by Everton as a new striker was wanted.

The Toffees didn’t get either in the end as Tyrique George became Everton’s only January signing as a new wide option in L4.

Focus can now turn to early preparations for the summer window, with Senesi already on The Friedkin Group’s shopping list.

Everton show strong interest in Marcos Senesi

Everton could sign Senesi on a free transfer in the coming months as his contract ticks down towards its expiry in the summer.

That will likely leave the Argentine with a raft of offers from throughout the Premier League and beyond.

It is a similar story for Harry Wilson at Fulham, but competition doesn’t look likely to halt the Toffees from pursuing their interest.

Fichajes reported on Monday that the Blues have shown a strong interest in signing Senesi, with a potential free transfer mooted as “one of the best deals of the decade in Merseyside”.

The 28-year-old has also attracted interest from Roma, also owned by the Friedkins, with the Serie A side described as a “heavyweight contender”.

The defender now has a decision to make over his future and is set to analyse any approaches made to him before agreeing to a deal that will alter his career path.

Friedkins can decide next destination for Senesi

There is likely to be widespread interest in Senesi ahead of the summer, but it appears that the Friedkins are throwing their weight around.

The Toffees have already felt somewhat let down by the American owners after Roma made four winter signings, while Everton only made one.

Despite that, European football could be possible on Merseyside, and if that is achieved, new signings of quality are going to be needed, and Senesi would fit that bill.

The centre-back has been solid for Bournemouth across many seasons, so bringing him in for nothing would represent great business.

If the defender accepts an approach from the Friedkins, there is then a decision to make whether he joins the Blues or Roma.

David Moyes and the Everton faithful will hardly be impressed if the Italians are chosen, but it may make for an interesting choice in the summer.
