Thierno Barry atrocious as 7/10 continues fine form – Everton player ratings vs Bournemouth

Everton suffered a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

David Moyes handed Tyrique George his first start as he made two changes, with Jarrad Branthwaite also coming into the side on 10 February at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Blues took a 1-0 lead through an Iliman Ndiaye penalty, but that was as good as their night got, as Rayan equalised and Amine Adli put the visitors ahead.

Jake O’Brien was then sent off as the last man when he brought down Adli, basically condemning the Toffees to defeat.

Thierno Barry dismal as Everton lose

Thierno Barry was hooked after 62 minutes, and that was far too late after his showing against the Cherries.

The French forward had blanked in his last two matches after scoring against Aston Villa and Leeds, and it was no surprise when he was replaced by Beto.

The 23-year-old missed two glorious chances that he missed, he hit a rebound from James Garner’s free-kick wide, then a cutback from Ndiaye was not good enough and was blocked.

That ultimately cost his side as Andoni Iraola’s side went and scored two goals at the other end after the young forward had failed to put his side out of sight.

Barry had a total of 22 touches, with just two coming in the opposition box, and completed just 10 of 16 passes for a 62 per cent success rate, per Sofascore.

His performance may have Moyes thinking about whether the Guinea-Bissau man is the right option in the future, rather than him.

James Garner brilliant despite Everton defeat

James Garner continued his fine Everton form, that has seen him linked with an England call-up for the World Cup in the summer.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been a creative and defensive lynchpin of Moyes’ side lately, and he even slotted in at right-back after O’Brien’s dismissal.

The 24-year-old completed 96 per cent of his 51 pass attempts, misplacing just one as he tried to take his side forward.

He made 10 passes into the final third, and also had two shots, one of which was on target, the other which was way away from troubling Djordje Petrovic.

Defensively, he was fantastic, making four clearances, two tackles, an interception and four recoveries and winning three of the five ground duels that he attempted, for a 60 per cent success rate.

Garner is definitely making his case to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the tournament in America with his recent displays.
