Everton reminded of Thierno Barry ‘reality’ as reveal from Bournemouth loss proves all

Everton know they will have to play the long game to get the best out of Thierno Barry.

The Toffees suffered a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Tuesday, as the striker’s miss was the most talked about moment of the match.

The Frenchman appeared to have a golden opportunity to extend his Premier League goal tally to six, but was unable to convert what seemed an easy rebound just yards out from the Cherries’ goal.

Further statistics from the 23-year-old’s performance against Bournemouth proved Everton will have to remain patient with their £27million summer signing.

Thierno Barry will develop with Everton, TFG already aware of it

Everton know the “realities” that they face with Barry, including how long they may have to wait for the young forward to become a consistent goalscorer.

As highlighted by the Sofascore graphic, Barry recorded a pretty shocking 5.8 rating, which was heavily influenced by his big miss.

However, his overall performance cannot be ignored, as the Frenchman lost possession six times and managed to win just three of his 11 duels.

Not only that, but his overall expected goal rate was 0.90 from the two shots that he did have. However, Bluenoses cannot succumb to the idea that Barry is a complete failure in front of the goal.

As shown in the table above, Barry is underperforming in terms of xG, but barely. The Friedkin Group were already aware when they brought the forward to Merseyside from Villarreal in the summer that he was a long-term addition.

Thierno Barry Everton stats

It’s easy to forget the good moments that he’s provided the Toffees with recently, but the last thing a young man needs is people jumping on the bandwagon that isn’t fully justified.

TFG already had their chance to land a Barry replacement, but didn’t

Everton seemed close to landing a striker in the January transfer window, as Youssef En-Nesyri was one name that was bandied about a lot.

The striker could have been available on a loan-to-buy deal from Fenerbahce, and Everton were even rivalling the likes of Juventus and other European giants.

Considering the Toffees didn’t spend any money in the winter window, albeit Tyrique George could become a permanent signing in a few months, you would have thought a new number nine would have been brought in.

For whatever reason, that wasn’t the case, and David Moyes will have to use what he’s got until the end of the season.
