Merlin Rohl’s Everton future beyond this season looks clear as fresh contract update emerges

Everton will sign Merlin Rohl permanently if they stay in the Premier League this season.

That’s according to X user Benj, who is a co-host on respected Everton podcast The Bullens View.

The Toffees hold an obligation to buy in the region of £17.3million for the midfielder, who now looks set to stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, considering the Blues are nowhere near the relegation zone.

The German is currently on loan from Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg and is struggling to get game time under David Moyes.

Bluenoses may not be overly impressed by the news, as they’ve yet to see much to convince them of Rohl‘s £17.3m price tag.

There were rumours of his contract being terminated recently, but all signs are pointing towards an extended stay with the Toffees.

TFG now face serious questions after £90m spend

Rohl’s hasn’t barely featured for the Toffees, and Moyes doesn’t seem to be too keen on the young midfielder either.

But he’s not been the only transfer letdown this season, as Tyler Dibling’s Everton future continues to come into question.

The winger was brought to Merseyside in the summer window for a fee in the region of £40million, signing a four-year contract after leaving Southampton.

The 19-year-old was a new face at Finch Farm alongside Thierno Barry, who, granted, has had his moments, but still cost the Friedkin Group a hefty £27million before an additional £6million in add-ons.

The trio of Rohl, Barry, and Dibling have cost the Friedkin Group around £90million, and it’s currently hard to see any supporting evidence for their prices.

David Moyes has instant summer decision to make with Merlin Rohl

Everton look more likely to finish in the top half of the Premier League than get sucked into a relegation battle, which means Rohl is practically theirs.

It’s a tricky situation for Moyes, as the 23-year-old is at a stage in his career where he needs game time. But, he also hasn’t proved his worth in an Everton shirt yet.

When his transfer is inevitably finalised, the Toffees need to look at loaning Rohl out instantly, or better yet, offloading him for a cut-price deal.

If the winter transfer window was anything to go by, then the Friedkin Group don’t have many plans to keep spending for Moyes, meaning sales will be needed for recruits.
