David Moyes out of ideas at Everton as tactical frailties exposed in fresh Premier League analysis

Everton supporters have had mixed views on David Moyes this season with struggles for constsency present.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium hasn’t seen much success this season, but the Toffees’ Premier League season has been kept alive by their away form.

While some criticised the Friedkin Group for their handling of the winter and summer transfer windows, Moyes has also shown his flaws.

While the 62-year-old is limited with options in certain areas for the Blues, his way of playing has been highlighted as a problem on more than one occasion.

Opta Analyst shows David Moyes’ stubbornness at Everton

Everton were one-dimensional under Sean Dyche, and often won games by being physical and direct, a style of play that wasn’t loved by all supporters.

Moyes has undoubtedly changed the Toffees’ fortunes in the Premier League since returning last season, but problems are beginning to creep in regarding his tactics.

As highlighted by Opta Analyst on X, Everton are now ranking underneath the Premier League median for direct speed up the field as well as passes per square.

This shows that the Blues are not progressing in playstyle as much as they thought since the departure of Dyche.

The issue with this is that Everton have been trying to move away from this style for years, and although it’s still effective, it’s not what the long-term project demands.

Is the quality in Everton’s squad being downplayed?

The Toffees have had Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish firing for them this season, and though the latter is now injured, Moyes is definitely not short of quality.

As highlighted by the Sofascore graphic below, Everton are struggling specifically in the attacking department.

The Friedkin Group have handed Moyes another attacking maverick in Tyrique George, and there really aren’t many excuses for the Toffees to still be playing in this manner.

The Everton chiefs may have a date to review Moyes’ performance on the whole, and while it would be unfair to sack him anytime soon, it’s not impossible, should this trend continue.
