Everton to pay Marcos Senesi £150,000-a-week as requirements emerge for free transfer agreement

Everton have been backed to table a contract offer for Marcos Senesi.

Senesi has attracted interest from Everton as his contract ticks down towards its summer expiry date at Bournemouth.

The Argentine looks destined to depart the Vitality Stadium, with multiple links away from the south coast emerging ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Everton are one side interested in Senesi, which won’t come as a surprise with the centre-back available for nothing at the end of the season.

The Toffees could now make a move to land the 28-year-old, with one factor likely to impact the chances of a Merseyside switch.

A free transfer may come across as a complete bargain to those outside of Hill Dickinson Stadium, but there are hidden details that will cost the Blues.

There will be no fee on the balance sheet in L4, but the defender will be keen on landing increased wages with the absence of a transfer spend.

Those salary demands will only increase as more outfits showcase interest in Senesi, something which David Moyes and Co. will have to compete with moving forward.

Clubs linked to Marcos Senesi so far:

Former Everton scout Bryan King has backed his old side to make an offer to the Bournemouth man, but a deal could hinge on their Premier League finish.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “I’m sure there will be a few clubs interested, Everton being one.

I can see Everton making an offer. Two or three clubs may do the same, which may make things difficult.

If they can get into Europe, they could push themselves to the front of the queue.

If he goes anywhere, he’ll be on £150k-a-week because that ties in the fee he would have cost, and he’ll get a decent signing-on fee as well.

That’s how these free transfers work.

Senesi signing would spell bad news for Michael Keane

Moyes would have to have massive belief that the ex-Feyenoord man could come in on a free transfer and make a positive impact.

For a wage of £150k-a-week, he would likely become a regular starting option, even with James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jake O’Brien available.

Senesi has become one of the better centre-backs in the Premier League at Bournemouth, so he isn’t going to move and play second-string football.

That would likely see him directly replace Michael Keane if he were to make the move to Merseyside in the summer.

The Englishman has been a useful asset for the Blues this season, but there is no doubt the out-of-contract star would represent a step up in quality.

This deal could all depend on securing European football, something which will ultimately be impacted by whether the Toffees can maintain a consistent run of form moving forward.
