Everton must jump at opportunity as Ivan Toney reveals likelihood of Premier League return

Ivan Toney had been linked with a move to Everton in recent months.

Form has been hard to come by for Everton lately, and for that reason, David Moyes’ one and only focus will be on ensuring his side can finish the season strongly, with 12 games to be played.

However, just as it was last time out, this summer transfer window is already shaping up to be a big one, especially after the Toffees failed to make the most of the winter window.

Harry Wilson has been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium, as has Toney, who scored 36 times for Brentford in the Premier League and offered plenty away from goals, as showcased by his Sofascore graphic below.

And after the latter has spoken out on his future, the Toffees need to be alert.

What has Ivan Toney said on his future?

Toney has had an excellent time in Saudi Arabia, and certainly for reasons more than the money.

The 29-year-old scored 30 goals across all competitions in his first season for Al Ahli, and has already managed 28 in his 32 appearances for them this season.

But despite that impressive form since the minute he arrived, Toney has been consistently linked with a move back to the Premier League, with Everton one of a handful of teams to have shown an interest.

Thierno Barry and, in particular, Beto, have struggled to offer any real quality for the Toffees this season, who are among the lowest scorers in the Premier League.

Toney would rectify that, and in an interview with Sky Sports, he has refused to rule out a return to England.

“Never say never,” he said in response to coming back to the Premier League. “I have goals I want to achieve here first, the club have signed me for a long period of time.

“I want to repay them and bring trophies. In football and life, you never know what’s around the corner. Who knows what the next step is?”

Everton have one other issue to address if Toney were to be a success

Toney would bring goals to Everton, but only if the chances were there for him to take.

And that has been a struggle for the Toffees this season, with just 30.9 xG in the Premier League, and 11.23 of that coming from set pieces.

Jack Grealish’s season-ending injury has certainly impacted that, with very few player sable to replicate the creative capabilities that he showcased weekly since he arrived on loan.

As mentioned above, with Wilson linked, that would certainly help, but if a move for the Wales star fails to materialise, Everton really need to add more creativity to their side for any goalscoring striker to have a full effect.
