Everton’s 31-year trophy drought poses question to Friedkins amid latest Premier League reveal
Everton have not won a major trophy since they achieved success in the FA Cup back in 1995.
David Moyes has found plenty of success at Everton since he made his return to Merseyside, but that right there is one of the issues in itself.
It certainly feels as though it has been a successful period, but the Toffees have had nothing to show for it, with the standard having recently dropped to mean that anything above a relegation battle is deemed as success.
Since the Toffees last won a major trophy back in 1995, they have featured in the Europa League Round of 16, made it to several FA Cup quarter finals, as well as a final, back in 2009 when they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.
But the lack of progress raises a question that only The Friedkin Group will be able to answer.

What are TFG’s ambitions for Everton?
The Friedkins offered plenty of optimism with what they had to say about their takeover, but their actions since have not replicated that ambition entirely.
The winter window was a prime example of that, with Everton in a good spot to go on and qualify for Europe, only for the Toffees to make little use of it with Tyrique George being the only arrival.
That in itself can certainly be used to show a lack of ambition, as can the Premier League‘s all-time table, which has Everton in seventh.
Everton are one of only two sides in the top 10 who have failed to win a major trophy in the 21st century, with Aston Villa’s 1996 League Cup success their most recent triumph.

It certainly feels as though the Toffees have been stuck in a stage of stabilising themselves in the Premier League, despite very rarely being at risk of losing their status.
What’s next for Everton, and how do they get there?
West Ham aside, the rest of the top 10 in the above table have progressed year on year and are almost always competing for trophies. The same can’t be said for Everton.
And as for the reason behind it, recruitment is very high on the list.
You can certainly argue that Everton have still failed to replace the hole that was once left by Romelu Lukaku, with goals easily their biggest concern over the last few seasons.
The Blues have made some positive strides in terms of having those top-class players in their squad, with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish, but it is minimal compared to the sides that they should be competing with.
It’s approaching the time where TFG need to prove their ambitions, and get this massive club in a position where they can win trophies.
