Carlos Alcaraz must do more at Everton as he outlines new Hill Dickinson ambition

The early months of Carlos Alcaraz at Everton provided promising glimpses of what he could bring to the Toffees.

While his original deal was on loan, the Merseyside club triggered the option to make it a permanent move, and the Argentine would continue on as an Everton player.

However, since then, he has struggled to make the same impact that pushed the Blues into making that decision.

Alcaraz has found his game time and starts limited this season, with the 23-year-old Everton star falling way behind in David Moyes’ pecking order.

However, his position in the squad has seemingly left him unphased as he set out his ambition for his future in L3.

What has Carlos Alcaraz said about his Everton future?

Despite his lack of minutes for Everton this season, Alcaraz appears to be enjoying his time so far, and that has prompted him to admit he would like to stay for years to come.

Speaking to Everton media, ahead of facing Manchester United, Alcaraz admitted that hearing the fans chant his name has been a “special” feeling and one which has given him “goosebumps”.

It is that kind of support by fans that has led the former Southampton man to outline why he wishes to stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for years to come.

Alcaraz said: “Since I arrived, I’ve always been treated well; everyone has always been good to me, so that’s why I decided to stay here.

“I can continue to enjoy being here with the fans, at this big and wonderful club that is Everton, so hopefully I can stay for more years to come.”

However, while that may be his ambition, the Argentine attacking midfielder may not have much say in the matter based on the trust Moyes has put in him this season.

Carlos Alcaraz must do more to realise his Everton ambition

Hearing a player admit they want to stay at your club is a positive thing, but in the case of Alcaraz, he must do more on the pitch to show why he deserves to remain at Everton.

This campaign, the £12.6million man, has not had much impact. He has started just six Premier League matches and has only one goal and one assist across all competitions.

Alcaraz’s sole goal this season came in the second round of the Carabao Cup against League One outfit Mansfield.

That is in stark contrast to the two goals and three assists he achieved in 15 appearances last season in the Premier League.

Right now, Alcaraz’s current deal only lasts until the summer of 2027, so if performances do not start improving on the pitch, Everton could decide to cash in on him this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free next year.

Over the last two games, despite Everton needing goals in the last 10 minutes, the South American was an unused substitute, highlighting how Moyes currently views him.

With Everton fighting for European places, Alcaraz’s chances may come few and far between, but whenever he does get minutes, he has to make them count.

Or else that wish of staying for many years will ultimately dwindle more quickly than he would want.
