David Moyes has glaring Everton issue to fix after worrying Premier League stat emerges

Everton have struggled to score goals on a consistent basis all season long.

Having only found the back of the net 29 times in 26 matches, the Toffees have the sixth-worst attack in the Premier League.

Beto has only scored three times this season, and he was particularly wasteful in front of goal at the start of the campaign, which led to him being dropped for Thierno Barry.

The Frenchman hasn’t done much better himself, with his tally of five quite underwhelming after making a £27million move from Villarreal in the summer.

David Moyes has been unable to find an answer to Everton‘s woes in front of goal, and it could cost them qualification for European football next season.

Everton have the fewest number of different goalscorers in the Premier League this season

The 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth at Hill Dickinson Stadium on 11 February proved that the Toffees don’t have a striker who is consistent.

In fact, only eight Everton players have found the back of the net in the top flight this campaign, which is the fewest in the league.

Barry, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye are all on five goals, which simply isn’t good enough for a side that is currently eighth in the table.

In some ways, you have to give Moyes some credit for the fact that he’s led the Toffees into a fight for European football without a forward whom he can rely on.

However, it shows that The Friedkin Group haven’t analysed the squad properly, and their failures in the winter transfer window could prove to be extremely costly.

Moyes may not have the best options at his disposal, but he has to address the issue immediately.

Whether it’s by changing his tactics completely or using full-backs who are much more attacking, a few goals could be the difference between having a successful season or not.

Everton had to sign another striker in the winter transfer window

Everton held a high interest in both Youssef En-Nesyri from Fenerbahce and Ricardo Pepi from PSV Eindhoven.

However, the Toffees weren’t willing to pay the fees required as a move for a forward depended on Beto leaving permanently.

As seen in the Sofascore graphic below, both Beto and Barry have failed to deliver, and it begs the question as to why they didn’t sign another number nine.

Splashing the cash on En-Nesyri or Pepi would have had huge long-term benefits, while keeping Youssef Chermiti instead of selling him to Rangers may have also helped Everton this campaign.

Moyes can’t change anything now, and it is more than likely that a striker will be targeted in the summer.

Let’s just hope their inactivity in January doesn’t come back to bite them.
