Everton fans will love what George Pickford did in latest game on loan at Southport
Everton youngster George Pickford continued his brilliant early form on loan at Southport with a clean sheet against Buxton.
Pickford penned a new contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last week, which will keep him around until 2028, before moving to the National League North side for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old put in a man-of-the-match performance for Southport last Saturday, making several superb stops in a 5-1 win over Hereford.
He then backed up his impressive debut with his first clean sheet for Neil Danns’ side, as they drew 0-0 with Buxton on Tuesday evening.
George Pickford reacts to Southport clean sheet
Southport are struggling down near the bottom of the National League North, but following Pickford’s arrival, they have now picked up four points from their last two games.
The young goalkeeper joined Everton as an 11-year-old and has been a regular for the Under-21’s side over the last year.
Now, Pickford is getting his first taste of senior football, and he is clearly more than equipped to deal with his new environment.
Following the 0-0 draw with Buxton, the Toffees loanee took to social media to react to his own performance.

Pickford reposted the final score on his Instagram story, adding the caption, “another one”, to highlight his clean sheet.
The shot-stopper recorded six shut-outs in the Premier League 2 for Everton in the first six months of the season before his move to Southport.
Everton fans should have high hopes for George Pickford
While on loan at Southport, Pickford will continue to train with the Everton first team at Finch Farm.
Despite having no relation to Jordan Pickford, George’s development has been aided massively by being able to work with the Toffees number one.
Speaking to Everton club media after signing his new deal, the teenager said: “It’s unbelievable to train with him (Jordan Pickford), especially when you watch him when he plays for the first team, and you see how good he is.
“But you see all the stuff you don’t see in games – and how much he helps you, too. I’m only 19, and he’s always there to improve you and help you as much as he can.”
After his strong start at Southport, Everton fans should have high hopes for (George) Pickford, as he could very well develop into a top keeper.
The Merseyside outfit will surely want their academy graduate to replace his namesake in the future, and continue the stability between the sticks for the Toffees.
