Troy Parrott could already have been an Everton player as details of rejection emerge

Troy Parrot has opened up on how he could already have been an Everton player, amid recent links with David Moyes’ side.

Parrott has been enjoying a successful spell in the Netherlands, playing for AZ Alkmaar, where he has scored 43 goals in 79 appearances.

This campaign alone, he has netted 12 Eredivisie goals in 18 appearances.

However, while the Toffees have been looking into the prospect of signing him, the Irishman could already have been at the Merseyside club after his latest reveal.

Parrott has now shared that before deciding to move to Tottenham as a 15-year-old, Everton were also in the mix, but he chose to reject them.

If that move as a youth prospect had worked out, Moyes may already have had the number nine he needed at his disposal.

Why did Troy Parrott reject Everton?

In the summer, Parrott could become an Everton player, but the Irishman has actually played for the L3 outfit before.

When he was younger, the 24-year-old striker went on trial at multiple clubs across the UK, one of which included the Toffees.

He told Voetbal International: “From a young age, I was asked by foreign clubs to do internships. I played for Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Celtic.”

His time at that trial had seemingly impressed those at Finch Farm, as Parrott was offered the chance to join the Merseyside club. However, in the end he decided to reject Everton.

Parrott said: “I had to choose between Spurs, Everton, Wolves and Celtic. Tottenham gave me the best feeling. I felt incredibly welcome there, which is especially important at a young age.”

The Blues were ultimately unable to convince them of their project and the pathway they had on offer.

As Moyes looks to sign a number nine in the summer, they’ll be hoping the opposite can be true if they push forward to bring Parrott to the club.

What has Parrott said about his future?

Parrott has been fairly open about his future over the last few months, stating he had wanted to stay at AZ for the rest of the campaign.

However, his stance could be refreshed come the end of the season.

Parrott has stated his desire to win a trophy with AZ, and if he can manage to do that, he will then put his future into focus: “I’m incredibly keen to win a trophy with AZ. The cup, for example, after losing the final last season. It might be time for the next step after that. We’ll see.”

The door could certainly be open for a move, and with the 24-year-old already experiencing English football and now maturing his game, he could be an excellent signing in the summer.

It remains to be seen which striker Moyes brings to Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the priority in the summer must be a centre-forward.
