Everton ones to watch as Marcos Senesi clashes expected

Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi is of interest to multiple sides across the continent ahead of the summer transfer window, with his contract set to expire in June.

Area Napoli report that Italian giants Napoli, Juventus and Roma are interested in the Argentine, but outlined that Tottenham, Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are ones to “watch out for”.

This should set up “clashes” between clubs as they battle it out for his signature.

The 28-year-old made his move to England in 2022, and has made 116 appearances for the Cherries as they have restabilised as a Premier League side since their promotion that year.

Being eligible for both the Italian and Argentine national teams, Senesi opted for Argentina at senior level, but his connections with Italy could make a Serie A move tempting.

But, with Everton firmly in the race for European football, the Toffees could stand out as a potential option for the Argentine – described as “one of the most sought-after players” around – over the summer.

Marcos Senesi’s record for Bournemouth

Senesi has been a reliable operator for multiple years at Premier League level, as Bournemouth have continued to hit new heights following their ascent back to the top flight in 2022.

The Argentine made just 17 appearances last term, due to the form of Dean Huijsen and Ilia Zabarnyi, who earned moves to Real Madrid and PSG last summer, and a hamstring injury that kept him out of action from December to March.

Limited to just 1,107 league minutes last term, he has knocked that out of the park with 25 appearances and 2,300 minutes this time around.

With 1.79 tackles, 1.67 interceptions, 4.40 recoveries and 7.62 clearances per 90, Senesi is an all-action defender, while his fantastic ability on the ball sees him operate as a regular under Andoni Iraola.

At 28, he carries experience in both Europe with Feyenoord, and multiple years of Premier League experience – representing the exact type of signing Everton should be looking to make as they look to make the next step at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Final season result will dictate Everton’s summer recruitment

Sitting ninth in the Premier League standings, David Moyes’ side are well and truly in the race for European football, ahead of their clash against Manchester United on Monday.

Though, the result of this race will be what determines the direction of their recruitment this summer.

When it comes to Senesi, his Bournemouth side also find themselves locked in a battle with the Toffees. And while Everton are looking to enter a new prosperous era at their new stadium, the prospect of signing a new deal at the Vitality could be more attractive.

Alongside this, if Everton have no European football to offer, the idea of a move to the aforementioned Serie A titans would become even more enticing should regular football come alongside this.

If the Toffees are to secure their first European campaign since 2017, then the recruitment level should shift through multiple gears, simply due to the quality of players it would attract.

It is not imperative that Everton qualify for Europe this year after multiple relegation-threatened years, but it could have a massive impact in the second year at the club’s new home.
