Everton learn if points deduction is possible after PSR deadline

Everton won’t face a Premier League points deduction, as they’ve been found not to have breached PSR rules.

According to a report from The Times, all 20 Premier League sides have avoided being in breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2024-25 season.

Clubs had to submit their accounts for last season by 31 December 2025, and it’s now reported that the Premier League’s financial team haven’t been able to find any side that hasn’t complied with PSR’s three-year, £105million losses rules.

Aston Villa, however, are set to be sanctioned by UEFA for breaching their squad cost rule, with a fine on their way for reportedly spending more on player wages, agents and transfers than the 70 per cent of a club’s revenue allowed.

How did Everton avoid PSR sanctions for 2024-25?

Everton do have a recent history of breaching PSR rules and being deducted points, making Wednesday’s reveal a hugely encouraging one for the Toffees.

For a PSR breach in the 2021-22 season, Everton were hit with a six-point deduction in 2024 – which they successfully had reduced from 10 after an appeal – and were again sanctioned two points for another breach in 2022-23.

However, since completing their takeover in December 2024, Dan Friedkin and The Friedkin Group (TFG) have seemingly got a better handle on Everton’s finances, as evidenced in Wednesday’s report.

And they’ve been able to avoid breaching PSR rules for 2024-25 with a shrewd business move, after selling Everton’s women’s team in July 2025 to Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is owned by Friedkin.

Not only did this allow them to become a standalone entity, but it also massively helped the men’s side when it came to staying within PSR rules.

Everton look to be in strong financial position ahead of the summer

Many Everton fans were critical of the club’s recent winter transfer window, with Tyrique George the only new signing made to David Moyes’ squad.

However, TFG opted to resist any temptation of purchasing players just for the sake of doing so and being seen to be active in the market, instead saving funds for the summer.

And so, with Wednesday’s financial reveal showing that Everton are in the clear for PSR at the moment, Moyes could be set for a significant transfer war chest to play with in the summer window.

On top of that, Everton also now have a number of highly saleable assets in the team, with Iliman Ndiaye, James Garner, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite all sure to command big fees if they were to be sold.
