Richard Keys stunned by Jordan Pickford ‘save of the season’ in Everton win vs Newcastle

Jordan Pickford left everyone with their mouths open as Everton beat Newcastle United 3-2 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Richard Keys branded the England number one’s save in the 94th minute off of Sandro Tonali’s volley the best of the season, with the Toffees securing the three points at St James’ Park on 28 February.

The veteran broadcaster was stunned by the former Sunderland shot-stopper’s ability to keep the Magpies from equalising in the final minutes of the game.

With Pickford pulling off an “absolutely magnificent” save in Tyneside, he’ll surely be one of the favourites to pick up an end of the season award.

Thomas Tuchel has no excuse after Everton win vs Newcastle United

There are some who’ve been critical of Pickford in the past and don’t believe he should be England’s number one.

The likes of Dean Henderson, James Trafford, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale have all tried to displace the Toffees goalkeeper in the Three Lions’ squad but have failed to do so.

While the Crystal Palace shot-stopper is also having an impressive campaign, there’s no excuse for Thomas Tuchel to replace the former Sunderland star in the 2026 World Cup.

Pickford is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper the Three Lions have at their disposal, and it would be foolish to think otherwise.

The 31-year-old’s presence in between the sticks will surely give England the best chance of winning the summer tournament, and his importance at Hill Dickinson Stadium should only reinforce Tuchel’s decision.

Writing on X on 28 February, Keys said, “I’ve just seen save of the season. Jordan Pickford against Newcastle. Magnificent. Absolutely magnificent.”

David Moyes to achieve nine-year first at Hill Dickinson Stadium

It’s been almost a decade since the Toffees last played in the Europa League in the 2017-18 season, failing to get past the group stage of the competition.

David Moyes is now looking to bring success back to Everton, with the Scottish manager’s eyes firmly set on a European finish in the Premier League.

As things stand, the Toffees are eighth in the league table, but could easily climb further up the table if results elsewhere go their way until the end of the campaign.

Exciting times could be ahead for fans in L4 as The Friedkin Group make strides after completing their takeover.
