Everton: Adam Aznou to be encouraged by Vitalii Mykolenko struggles vs Arsenal – Here’s why

Adam Aznou has failed to make an imprint on David Moyes’ Everton plans, but he must be thinking about a new chance at redemption following Vitalii Mykolenko’s struggles.

Across this season, Aznou has only featured on one occasion for the Toffees, as his sole appearance arrived in FA Cup action against Sunderland, with the left-back coming off the bench.

He made an immediate impact by winning a penalty to send the game to extra time. Unfortunately, the Blues did end up losing on spotkicks.

However, with injuries at the back and Mykolenko’s poor performance for Everton at the Emirates, the 19-year-old could have reason to knock on Moyes’ door.

How Adam Aznou has been offered encouragement at Everton

Aznou could be eyeing a push for Everton’s left-back position, with those ahead of him leaving little to inspire recently.

Mykolenko’s performance against Arsenal has received criticism, and truthfully, much of it is deserved.

The Ukrainian was poor at the Emirates Stadium, and Aznou must now be believing that with hard work on the training ground, his chance to start has increased.

However, if the Toffees manager opts to put his trust back into Mykolenko or move one of his centre-backs out to left-back, then that will say quite a lot about how the Scotsman rates Aznou.

Although right now, Everton are without James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite at the back, leaving those defensive options slim.

If Aznou still cannot get a game in the next month or so, the 19-year-old may find himself needing to step away from Finch Farm to progress his career.

Whether that comes in the form of a permanent transfer or simply a loan remains to be seen. One thing is for sure: Aznou will not improve with his current lack of minutes.

David Moyes’ Aznou indirect did not provide much hope for the defender – here’s why

Moyes’ trust in Aznou is very low, and that was clear towards the end of February.

As Everton geared up to take on Newcastle in the Premier League, the Scotsman was asked about the Moroccan’s lack of minutes.

The question towards Moyes also referred to Tyler Dibling and Merlin Rohl, but the response said quite a lot about the situation

The Toffees manager bluntly said: “I want to play the players who have the best chance of getting those results. They need to improve.”

With a tough test against Chelsea looming, Moyes is unlikely to instil trust in Aznou, but if he can impress in training ahead of the next match, the defender could be called upon for a few minutes.

From there, he can work on pushing for a start.
