David Moyes: Everton manager’s record vs Chelsea won’t fill Toffees with confidence

David Moyes has a very poor managerial record against Chelsea, which won’t do Everton‘s confidence levels much good ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash.

With just eight games to go in Everton’s Premier League campaign, Moyes’ men will know that their chances of qualifying for European football next season are running out.

The Toffees currently sit eighth in the table, but are just six points behind Liverpool in fifth, whilst also trailing Chelsea by just five points in sixth respectively.

As such, Everton’s game against Chelsea on Saturday is a real European football six-pointer at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with a Toffees win propelling them right into the mix in that regard.

What is David Moyes’ managerial record against Chelsea?

Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture back in December 2025, meaning Moyes’ side will be out for revenge on Merseyside this weekend.

Liam Rosenior has just hit a slight wobble as Chelsea manager too, with back-to-back defeats against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Newcastle in the Premier League respectively.

They have also won just once in their last three league games, beating Aston Villa 4-1 but also suffering a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal and being held to a 1-1 draw with Burnley in that time period respectively.

However, Rosenior will be buoyed if he looks at the history books detailing Moyes’ record against Chelsea, as the Everton boss certainly hasn’t enjoyed facing off against them during his career.

In fact, there’s no team that Moyes’ has come up against as a manager more times than the 50 games he’s managed against Chelsea, but he probably wishes that wasn’t the case.

As detailed by Transfermarkt, Moyes has only won eight of those 50 matches against the Stamford Bridge outfit, drawing 13 and losing 29 times respectively.

That’s an average of just 0.74 points per game against them, with 46 goals scored compared to 89 goals conceded against the Blues.

His very first managerial meeting with Chelsea came in the FA Cup as Preston North End manager in the 2001-02 season, which also ended in a 3-1 defeat in the Round of 16 of the competition that year.

When was the last time Everton beat Chelsea?

In fairness to Moyes though, it’s not just he whose not enjoyed a particularly good time of things against Chelsea down the years, as Everton have a poor recent record against them too.

Everton have failed to score in any of the last four Premier League meetings against the Blues, losing those four matches by an aggregate score of 9-0.

The last time that the Toffees defeated Chelsea was on 10 December 2023, when Abdoulaye Doucoure and an added-time Lewis Dobbin goal saw them claim a 2-0 win in the Premier League.

So, Moyes will be hoping to reverse his and Everton’s respective form guide against Chelsea on Saturday, and if they do so, there will be a real belief that they can go on and grab a European spot this season.
