David Moyes keen on Tomas Soucek reunion at Everton with summer West Ham exit on the cards

David Moyes remains a “big admirer” of West Ham’s Tomas Soucek, who Everton could make a move for this summer.

Soucek is said to be open to trying a new chapter, with the midfielder about to enter the final year of his contract at the London Stadium.

Moyes worked with the 31-year-old, as the pair helped the Hammers to lift the European Conference League trophy in 2023.

According to talkSPORT, there are concerns that Soucek doesn’t fit the playing style of current West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, as the former could leave the Irons this summer.

Everton have transfer targets heading into the summer window, and with Moyes remaining keen on Soucek, the Toffees could make a move.

Who could Tomas Soucek replace at Everton?

The Friedkin Group spent big last summer and may be reluctant to spend the same amount of money after the letdowns through the likes of Tyler Dibling and Adam Aznou last time around.

Everton made a bid to sign Soucek last summer, and it would be no surprise to see them go back in for him in a few months.

Soucek is coming to the back end of his career, but remains one of West Ham’s top performers in the Premier League, and looks to have some years left in his legs.

The veteran midfielder broke the Premier League record for most goals scored by a Czech Republic star this season, surpassing Patrik Berger’s record.

But if Moyes were to ask Everton to make a move for his former star, Idrissa Gana Gueye could have to make way.

Gueye will turn 37 shortly after the 2026-27 campaign starts, and Soucek could be an option that saves Everton an expensive replacement.

What does Soucek offer Everton over Idrissa Gana Gueye?

Gueye is still performing at a top level, and getting a replacement for him could depend on Everton’s ability to qualify for European football this season.

In the event that the Toffees do manage to reach Europe, they could keep Gueye around for depth. However, failure to qualify could result in a harsh reality check at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Regardless, Soucek offers a clear goal-scoring threat, which Gueye doesn’t. He can score from set plays and has the tendency to get on the end of crosses from open play.

The Czech Republic international wins 56 per cent of his aerial duels, as he also manages to make 1.73 tackles per game in the league, too.

There’s not much Gueye offers that Soucek doesn’t.
