Everton ready to exploit Chelsea as Liam Rosenior admits to too many errors

Everton will look to heap more misery on Chelsea as Liam Rosenior admits his side need to tighten up for the trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Chelsea suffered their third defeat in a row in all competitions on Tuesday after being thumped 3-0 at Stamford Bridge by Paris Saint-Germain.

This came after a 1-0 home loss to Newcastle United in the Premier League and 5-2 thrashing by PSG in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

The West London outfit are sixth in the Premier League and are in danger of missing out on securing Champions League football next term.

Now, head coach Rosenior has demanded more from his struggling Chelsea players ahead of Saturday’s trip to David Moyes’ Europe-chasing Everton.

Liam Rosenior calls for resilience against Everton

In the space of a few weeks, the positivity around Chelsea’s season is fast evaporating. Now, Everton will look to take advantage of that.

However, they don’t have a great record of late against the west London outfit.

Chelsea vs Everton (26 April 2025)1-0
Everton vs Chelsea (22 December 2024)0-0

This Everton game may be the boost Chelsea need. However, Moyes’ side will likely provide a stern test on Saturday.

They pushed Arsenal to the limit at Emirates Stadium last time out and are more than capable of beating Chelsea. And after the PSG loss, Rosenior has urged his players to cut out their unforced errors for their trip to the Toffees.

He told reporters: “We need to be resilient. We need to make sure we go to Everton with an organisation, with a freshness and intensity in our team, because we want to be in the Champions League next season.

“If we perform how I know we can, we can get there without the individual mistakes that we’re making at the moment.”

Everton need to sort out home record

When Everton left its beloved home at Goodison Park last season, hopes were high of turning their new abode, Hill Dickinson Stadium, into a fortress.

That hasn’t been the case thus far, with Everton having a much better record on their travels this season.

Indeed, their points haul of 19 in 15 games is the 14th-best in the Premier League. Contrast that with their away record, the fourth-best in the division, and it makes for stark reading.

To make matters worse for Everton, their upcoming home games are very tough on paper.

After entertaining Chelsea, they will lock horns with rivals Liverpool for the first Merseyside derby at their new ground and then they take on second-placed Manchester City.

If Everton want to qualify for Europe next season, they need to start picking up more home wins, starting against Chelsea.
