Everton would be making shrewd investment with £8m-linked defender Roggerio Nyakossi

Everton are reportedly monitoring OH Leuven defender Roggerio Nyakossi, who could be available to sign for just £8million.

David Moyes’ side have only conceded 35 goals in the Premier League this season, but Everton’s centre-back ranks could use an injection of youth this summer.

Michael Keane and James Tarkowski are both 33-years old now, and as good as they’ve been for the Toffees this term, it would be forward thinking to get succession plans under way.

Jarrad Branthwaite is waiting for his centre-back partner to lead the Everton defence of the future, and Hill Dickinson Stadium chiefs may just have found him.

Everton are seemingly planning for an ambitious summer transfer window, but a shrewd and budget-friendly deal could be had with Nyakossi.

Who else alongside Everton are interested in Roggerio Nyakossi?

Everton could have around £100million to spend this summer if Moyes’ men qualify for European football, which may well mean they enjoy the sort of window that sets them up for long-term success.

However, with PSR and potentially UEFA financial restrictions to abide by, the Toffees will still be searching for value signings where possible, and that could lead them to Nyakossi.

According to a report from The Sun, Everton are monitoring the situation of the 22-year-old centre-back, ahead of a potential summer swoop.

West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace are all credited with an interest in the Switzerland youth international, whilst Chelsea and Liverpool are also said to have touched base with the OH Leuven star.

The report claims that a deal could likely be struck for around £8m this summer, which for a young and emerging defender is a real bargain in today’s market.

Nyakossi joined Belgian outfit Leuven from Marseille in January 2025 on a two-and-a-half-year contract, but the French side are understood to have a buy-back agreement as part of that transfer.

Personal terms would still have to be agreed by both parties though in the event Marseille triggered that option, meaning Everton and others would still have the opportunity to pounce ahead of them.

How has Nyakossi been performing for Leuven this season?

So, for the potential to secure his signature for a mere £8m, it’s no wonder so many Premier League sides are reportedly sniffing around his services ahead of the summer window.

But because he may be available on the cheap, does that mean he’s not been performing well for Leuven? The answer to that question is no.

As per Sofascore, Nyakossi has completed 90 per cent of his passes accurately in the Belgian Pro League this season, as well as a staggering 95 per cent accuracy on passes within his own half.

He’s also registering a 62 per cent long ball success rate, has made zero errors leading to goals, has a 50 per cent dribble success rate and has won 57 per cent of his total duels.

Nyakossi also appears to carry a goal threat too, with his 6’4″ frame helping him put three goals on the board in 19 league games this season.

All in all then, this looks like a no-brainer of a deal for Everton to pursue, as they could find a long-term starting central defender for a relative drop in the modern day transfer market ocean.
