Tyrique George set for make-or-break Everton opportunity in light of Iliman Ndiaye injury

Tyrique George could be set for a much more important Everton role after the news of Iliman Ndiaye‘s injury.

Ndiaye has been ruled out of Senegal’s upcoming friendlies, despite being selected to travel with his nation during the international break.

It’s reported that David Moyes’ star man has suffered a foot injury, and it stemmed from sustaining discomfort with Everton beforehand.

The winger has arguably been the Toffees’ best player this season, alongside James Garner, and they will be hoping that it’s not an issue that keeps him out for the run-in of the Premier League.

Moyes may now look to George as his next best option, with Jack Grealish also currently set to miss the rest of the campaign.

These stats prove that Tyrqiue George has one chance to impress David Moyes

George hasn’t set the world alight at Everton, with a few cameo appearances that haven’t inspired many Blues fans.

The Toffees signed him on loan from Chelsea in the winter, as they also hold an option to buy him permanently this summer.

George’s stats for Everton and Chelsea this season

As seen in the table above, George does have good dribbling skills, completing 1.09 successful dribbles at a 42 per cent success rate.

He has a 66.7 per cent successful cross rate, but is dispossessed 2.55 times per match, while also losing 75 per cent of his duels.

The Englishman’s stats show that he’s unlikely to come straight into the team and make a big difference for Moyes, but given Ndiaye’s situation, he could be given one last opportunity.

Tyrique George Everton stats

George has managed just 104 minutes in the league since making the switch to Hill Dickinson, and it would be a surprise if Everton were to trigger his buy clause in the summer.

Moyes may be forced to backtrack on words with George

Moyes has the likes of Dwight McNeil and Charly Alcaraz, who is returning to fitness, as two options that can play on the flanks for the Toffees in light of Ndiaye’s injury.

The Everton boss has a strong stance against playing Tyler Dibling, which leaves George as the only other natural winger to replace Ndiaye temporarily.

Moyes previously said that he won’t “rush” the Chelsea loanee, and that the Toffees must be “careful” that they don’t place too much expectation on him.

Well, with the weight of European football resting on the final seven games of the season, Moyes had better be upping the expected importance of George for the run-in.

Either way, the best-case scenario for the Toffees is for Ndiaye to be fit and healthy after the break, but that’s not a guarantee.
