Kieran Maguire says Everton fans ‘spot on’ to protest over Monday night Premier League fixtures

Kieran Maguire believes that Everton supporters are in the right to be unhappy about the Premier League giving them multiple Monday night fixtures this season.

The Toffees appear to have been given more Monday night games than most this campaign, which has left supporters angry for one or more reasons.

The climbing rate of TV money in football has seen plenty of Premier League games drift away from the standard 3pm kick-off times in recent seasons.

Many Blues fans may have been unable to attend certain Monday night games this campaign, which is particularly frustrating considering the success of David Moyes‘ side.

Maguire believes that Everton fans are right to protest for multiple reasons, including financial ones, following the recent comments of the Fan Advisory Board.

Kieran Maguire says FAB not moaning to Premier League for no reason

Everton’s Fan Advisory Board recently spoke out against the Premier League, not just for their own club, but other sides, too.

The FAB expressed their disappointment and anger at leading the way as the team in the league with the most games played on days other than Saturday and Sunday.

While speaking on The Price of Football podcast this Thursday, Maguire revealed his thoughts behind the FAB’s stance on the matter.

Maguire said: “Manchester United [and Everton] fans have protested about this. This is Everton’s seventh Monday night match. Monday nights aren’t for football.

“The chances of the Premier League ever saying they’ve got something wrong are not part of their makeup. It’s a nightmare for away fans, and I can absolutely understand why Everton fans are up in arms about this.

“If you look at the FAB’s comments, it’s not losing for moaning sake. The accumulative effect is now debt-damaging supporter accessibility, matchday experience and long-term engagement, and they are spot on with that.”

Everton have had just three traditional 3pm matches on a Saturday this campaign, and there are implications when it comes down to fan travel and accessibility on days outside of the weekend.

Moyes hopes to achieve European football, but the Toffees’ chances of doing so are arguably being harmed here.

Premier League has forced Hill Dickinson narrative; here’s why

Everton’s reported £800million stadium, Hill Dickinson, was always going to be a risky move for the club to make.

However, the Blues haven’t been helped by the Premier League’s fixture scheduling, which has surely put Evertonians at a disadvantage on matchdays.

The Toffees have had seven games played at home in the league outside of the weekend, and just five on their travels.

There’s been a narrative around Hill Dickinson Stadium that the home atmosphere has harmed their performances in some games, and this might be the reason why.
