Thierno Barry has more to do than work hard at Finch Farm to fix fractured Everton relationship
Thierno Barry’s relationship with Everton fans hit an all-time low as the Frenchman was booed in the 3-0 win against Chelsea.
As the Toffees secured an important win in the race for European football, the striker headed straight to the tunnel much to the anger of the Hill Dickinson crowd.
The fractured relationship stems from the altercation between Everton fans and friends of the striker in the away end in the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, where Barry condemned supporters.
Inconsistency has been a theme of Barry’s spell under David Moyes so far, after signing for £27.6million back in the summer.
However, ahead of Everton’s Premier League run-in, Barry has been said to be working hard in training, but in the eyes of fans, he will have so much more to do.

What has been said about Thierno Barry in training?
Barry is not letting the noise from outside affect him, with his teammates insisting he still has a high work ethic at Finch Farm.
However, supporters will see that as the bare minimum that every Everton player should have when playing for the Merseyside club.
| Thierno Barry’s finishing woes for Everton | Total |
| xG underperformance | -0.14 |
| Big chances missed | 9 |
| Shots on target per game | 0.3 |
| Scoring frequency (in minutes) | 277 |
The reaction towards Barry could signal the end of his Everton career, but until the summer window, there are still seven games to go for him to make a difference, with the striker seemingly trying to block out the negativity.
Speaking about Barry via the Liverpool Echo, Michael Keane stated: “He’s always trained well, he always trains hard, and obviously the reception he got at the stadium wasn’t ideal. These things happen, but I think it’s important now for us all to stick together.”
Truthfully, opinions in football can be fickle, and in theory, if Barry nets the winning goal against Liverpool in the upcoming Merseyside derby, public opinion would almost certainly change.
But that is the crux of the situation. The only way the 23-year-old can mend the disconnect built between the striker and fans is by performing on the pitch.
Throughout much of this season, that has rarely been the case. His six Premier League goals in 31 appearances are a poor output for a player bought for £27.6m.

News that Barry is a good trainer and hard worker behind the scenes is the last thing that fans will want to hear. Instead, they will want to see it being translated onto the pitch.
Does Barry have an immediate chance to rectify Everton fans’ opinion?
Next up for Everton is a trip to London to face Brentford in the Premier League.
With the positions in the league table, this match is a crucial one in the race for European football, and Barry may be looking forward to it.
The Frenchman netted in the reverse fixture, but the Toffees would ultimately lose 4-2 on that day. However, the sheer fact that he already opened his account against the Bees will fill him with confidence.

It does remain to be seen if he will start, though, as Beto was Everton’s second goal scorer in that fixture as well.
Additionally, after coming off the back of an impressive showing against Chelsea, with two goals and one assist, it would be strange for Moyes to halt his momentum.
Overall, it does feel like an appearance off the bench is most likely.
