Everton boosted in bid to bag at least £16m windfall, TFG will be licking their lips

Everton will pocket a minimum of £16million if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Toffees have put themselves in an excellent position to secure European football for the first time since 2018, heading into the final seven games of the Premier League season.

David Moyes‘ men are eighth in the table, behind seventh-placed Brentford, who are in the sole Conference League qualification spot, only on goal difference.

More intriguingly, Everton are just three points behind rivals Liverpool, who are in the fifth and final Champions League qualification spot.

If Everton were to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition, at Liverpool’s expense, they would get a huge cash boost.

Everton eye Champions League fortune

Securing Champions League football, less than 18 months into The Friedkin Group’s stewardship, would be a huge achievement for the Merseyside outfit.

While a place in the Europa League or Conference League is more likely, Everton fans can start dreaming about dining at the top table in 2026-27.

Points required to finish in the Premier League’s top five
2022-23Liverpool (67 points – secured Europa League then)
2023-24Tottenham (66 points – secured Europa League then)
2024-25Newcastle United (66 points)

Last season, a top five finish guaranteed Champions League football, whereas the campaign before got you into the tournament by ending up in the top four.

The top five window is open again next term, but if Everton want to achieve that, they need a very strong finish to the season – as previous campaign point tallies have shown.

Incidentally, according to BBC Sport, the total prize pot for this season’s Champions League is roughly £3.8billion, meaning every participating club in the league phase received £16.1m.

Teams secured an extra £1.8m per win and £600,000 for every draw and every position in the table is worth an extra £240,000. Ergo, the team that ended up in 36th got £240,000 and 35th took £480,000. Table-toppers Arsenal pocketed £8.6m.

Last season, Paris Saint-Germain earned just over £126m for winning the entire competition. Incidentally, as per Swiss Ramble, Manchester City earned an estimated £76m as they fell in the knockout stage play-offs.

And if Everton qualify, they will also benefit from extra revenue from additional home games and a likely uplift in commercial deals (with Premier League teams getting better TV deals than many of their European neighbours).

And that’s not all. Here is a breakdown of what a knockout run could secure.

Will Everton make the Champions League?

Under Moyes, Everton have a real chance of securing European football next season, as they eye the Champions League once more.

Next up, they travel to rivals Brentford on Saturday in a huge clash in the race for Europe.

The Toffees will then be relishing the chance to get one over on their local rivals Liverpool at Hill Dickinson Stadium the following Sunday.

A tricky test away at lowly West Ham, followed by a home clash with title contenders Man City follows.

They then round off the season with away games at Crystal Palace and Tottenham, with a home match against Sunderland sandwiched inbetween.

This is not the easiest fixture list on paper but the way Everton are going, with three wins in their last four, they have a fighting chance.
