James Garner frustrated by ‘worst’ decision in Everton draw vs Brentford

James Garner picked up a yellow card against Brentford, with the Everton midfielder left irritated by the decision.

The Blues escaped defeat and saved their European hopes with a last-gasp equaliser thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Garner was once again in top form, making himself busy across the pitch and battling in plenty of duels.

His energy kept the Blues competitive, in what was ultimately an extremely close affair at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Unfortunately, though, Garner was booked in Everton’s draw for his only foul of the game, a moment that has left him feeling annoyed.

James Garner reacts to yellow card against Brentford

Garner has been one of Everton’s most important players this season, but when players pick up a booking, it can result in them second-guessing any attempted challenges.

As the Toffees drew 2-2 with Brentford, the Englishman did receive a yellow card on this occasion, one he ultimately did not agree with.

Referee Farai Hallam made quite the error in booking Garner, who ultimately won the ball in his challenge on Dango Ouattarra.

Taking to his Instagram story following the game, Garner said: “Tough point away from home. Also, the worst yellow card I’ve ever received.”

Focus will now turn to the Merseyside derby, as the Blues and Garner hope to inflict damage on their city rivals and boost their European chances.

Everton lose Garner suspension fear ahead of Premier League run-in

Typically, players who pick up 10 yellow cards throughout the season will receive a two-game ban and with Garner now on eight, there might have been a fear he could miss some crucial games to end the season.

However, that fear will no longer be there. The 10 yellow threshold is only active until gameweek 32, and with the clash against Brentford, the 32nd match for the Blues, he will no longer face a ban.

Players can still get suspended, as 15 yellow cards will result in a three-game ban.

However, with six games left, and with the 25-year-old seven behind that total, it is impossible for him to receive any further punishment.

Hopefully, he can remain available and avoid any potential sendings off. The Merseyside derby does hold the record for most red cards after all.
