Luca Davis’ Everton contract examined after latest Under-21 scenes

Luca Davis is one of the brightest prospects in Everton‘s youth academy.

The 19-year-old defender has been making waves at Finch Farm recently, and that continued in the Under-21s’ 3-2 win over Warrington Rylands on 13 April.

Davis scored the Toffees’ second goal in the Liverpool Senior Cup semi-finals clash at Walton Hall Park, with a stunning 25-yard drive.

He is capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, which could make him an asset in the near future for the Hill Dickinson Stadium side.

Goodison News looks at Davis’ contract situation at Everton after his latest exploits for the young Blues.

What is Davis’ contract status at Everton?

Davis signed his first professional contract with Everton in July 2025, a reward for his form at the academy level.

That deal is set to expire in June 2027, so his immediate future on Merseyside is secure.

If he continues on the path that he is currently on, then surely he will earn an extension in the future, closer to that expiry date.

What has Paul Tate said?

Davis has been thriving at right-back this season, and Tait admitted that he has been impressed with his attacking output.

Speaking after he bagged a late equaliser against Birmingham City on 3 April, he said:

“Luca showed perseverance, personality and grit (for the equaliser).

“He shows that all the time, every training session.

“We feel like when he plays right back, he’s a threat for us.”

Could Davis feature in the first-team soon?

Moyes may well already have an option for right-back with Davis.

The Blues are understood to want to improve in the position in the transfer market, and the academy star, who was naturally a centre-back, has transitioned well to the new role.

The attacking intent that he has shown would add a new dimension to his side and is something that Jake O’Brien, who has featured mostly at right-back this season, is lacking.

It is unlikely that he would become a starter immediately, as Moyes has shown that he does not like to throw young talents into the deep end, but he could be a squad player, and offer depth for the 2026-27 season, or beyond that.

The Friedkin Group are trying to implement better continuity between the youth teams and the senior side, and the defender could benefit from that shortly, if he continues in his current vein of form.
