David Moyes in light-hearted Everton financial comment as Monday night kick-offs loathed
David Moyes has revealed his frustration over the amount of Monday night kick-offs Everton have had this season, but appreciates the financial benefits they bring.
62-years-old and still seemingly full of enthusiasm and energy for management, Moyes has performed a brilliant job as Everton manager this season.
With his side in touching distance of qualifying for European football for the first time since 2017, they head into a Merseyside derby clash on Sunday which feels like the biggest in some time.
The Toffees are in strong form with one defeat and three wins from their last five, whilst Liverpool have just one victory under their belt from their previous five in all competitions.
Everton’s finances look set to be boosted significantly thanks to the campaign they’re having/still can have, but Moyes appears to have a love-hate relationship with one particular source of income for the Club this season.

What did David Moyes say about Everton’s Monday night games?
Everton fans have been frustrated over Monday night games this season, with the Toffees having played six times on that day of the week in 2025-26.
As a result, the number of games being moved so that they can be shown on television has meant many supporters have been unable to attend matches that they otherwise would’ve been able to.
| Everton’s Monday night games 25-26 | Result |
| Leeds, 18 Aug, 2025 | 1-0 loss |
| West Ham, 29 Sep, 2025 | 1-1 |
| Sunderland, 3 Nov, 2025 | 1-1 |
| Man United, 24 Nov, 2025 | 1-0 win |
| Leeds, 26 Jan, 2026 | 1-1 |
| Man United, 23 Feb, 2026 | 1-0 loss |
Thankfully, the Merseyside derby will be played on Sunday this weekend, but Moyes has shared in the frustrations voiced by supporters over the volume of matches they’ve had on Monday evenings.
Speaking in an interview for Jamie Carragher’s Telegraph Sport column, the Everton gaffer couldn’t hold his tongue when given the chance to speak to the former player-turned TV pundit to voice his feelings on the matter.
“You’re involved in this, but we’ve had an awful lot of Monday night kick-offs this season,” Moyes told Carragher.
“It’s not quite the same as coming together at 3pm or 5.30pm on a Saturday is it? It doesn’t make it easier when you are trying to get used to a new stadium. The victory over Chelsea felt like a huge moment for us.”

However, Moyes then conceded to the double-edged financial benefits of more Monday night games, with a tongue-in-cheek response to Carragher’s offering of reporting his feedback back to his Sky bosses.
“Do you want me to have a word with Sky?” Carragher details of his response to Moyes’ grievance.
Carragher writes that the Everton boss paused momentarily, before saying: “Not if it means we’re going to get less money.”
How many more Monday night games do Everton have?
Of course, with Monday night games being primetime slots with all the eyes of the Premier League watching, they are more financially rewarding for football clubs.
However, and as Moyes states, they are typically disliked by fans and managers alike, but have Everton had their fill of them this season?
Well, not quite, as they do still have one scheduled Monday night kick-off before the campaign is over, and that’s booked in for 4 May when they host Manchester City at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
So, once that’s taken care of, Moyes and Toffees supporters will be crossing their fingers that this will be their seventh and final Monday night game of 2025-26.
