Tim Sherwood claims Hill Dickinson is a ‘tough’ place to go but Everton records say otherwise

Tim Sherwood has been full of praise for Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, but his comments are not confirmed by facts.

Everton fell to defeat late on in the Merseyside derby as Virgil van Dijk broke the hearts of the Toffees fanbase.

The Blues had been building up to the first derby at the new ground by unveiling a new tifo and a loud and vibrant coach welcome.

However, ultimately, the performance on the pitch, while strong, was not enough to get any points over the line.

After the Merseyside derby, though, Sherwood has been speaking about Everton’s new stadium, and fans will likely roll their eyes at what he said.

What has Tim Sherwood said about Hill Dickinson Stadium?

Receiving praise for your new stadium can be nice to hear, but Sherwood’s latest comments make little to no sense.

Talking about the Premier League title race, Sherwood mentioned that Manchester City still have to make their way to Everton’s Hill Dickinson and could find it difficult.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood exclaimed: “The Hill Dickinson is a tough place to go.”

However, for any Everton fan, they will know that so far, that has been far from the case in the Toffees’ new ground.

While the atmosphere was rambunctious throughout the Merseyside derby, after scoring the equalising goal, David Moyes’ side could not get themselves going.

It was anything but tough for Liverpool, whose third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, having come on for the injured Giorgi Mamardashvili, was rarely tested.

Everton’s home form is an issue Moyes has to fix, which is why Sherwood’s recent comments about the L3 ground make little to no sense.

Where do Everton sit in the home form table?

When it comes to calculating the table based on just games at home, Everton end up falling into 14th place. It is not exactly the signs of a team that make life “tough” for away sides.

In comparison, Everton are fifth in the away table.

Additionally, the Blues have lost more games (7) than they have won (6) at their home ground this season.

Adjusting to a new stadium was always going to have its kinks to work through, and knowing how passionate the Everton fanbase is, it will not be long until Hill Dickinson hits the hostile atmosphere Sherwood already thinks it is.

However, for now, the former Tottenham manager is a long way off his assessment, as the poor home form could hurt Everton’s European hopes.

Luckily for the Toffees, they do only have two home ties left this season.
