Gustavo Hamer: Everton chance of bargain dismissed by Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder
Gustavo Hamer won’t be leaving Sheffield United on the cheap this summer, as Blades boss Chris Wilder speaks on the Everton-linked midfielder’s future.
The 28-year-old has once again been starring in the Championship this season, with four goals and 11 assists to his name from 34 second tier outings.
Having joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2023 from Coventry City, the former Feyenoord talent has long-established himself as one of the top players in English football outside the Premier League.
As such, his name has been routinely linked with a top flight move in recent times, with Leeds United one of the sides commonly touted with his signature.
Everton have also been credited with an interest too, and with the Toffees in a financially strong position, they could present a leading offer for the Dutchman this summer.

What has Chris Wilder said about Gustavo Hamer’s future?
Everton are reportedly readying a move for Hamer in the upcoming summer transfer window, as David Moyes looks to bolster his cutting edge in attack ahead of a potential European campaign next term.
Predominantly a left winger, but capable of playing pretty much anywhere across midfield, Hamer looks ready to test himself at Premier League level in what remains of his prime years.
| Hamer’s 25-26 Championship stats | Result |
| Big chances created | 15 |
| Key passes per game | 1.7 |
| Pass accuracy | 76% |
| Errors leading to goals | 0 |
| Dribble success | 48% |
| Balls recovered per game | 3.1 |
Rumours have been gathering pace in recent days over Sheffield United possibly looking to cash in on Hamer this summer, with their talismanic midfielder only contracted until June 2027.
Blades boss Wilder was specifically asked about those reports in a press conference on Tuesday, and his response, as quoted via Football Heaven on X, will be both what Everton chiefs will and won’t want to hear.
“I think it’s the same as it’s always been: if we have to sell a player or two, then we will do as long as we don’t give them away,” Wilder said.
“We have to raise money. The owners put a lot of money in to buy the football club. They’ve put a lot of money in, in terms of what investment they put in at the start of the season.
“And if that’s the case, that’s the case. I’m ok with that. But we can’t develop these players and just let them go for nothing.
“We can’t buy players and let them go cheaply, or not at a price where we don’t think it’s the right price for us.”
How much would be a fair price for Everton to pay for Hamer?
So, with Wilder admitting that Sheffield United would be willing to sell players this summer if the price is right, that begs the question in regards to Hamer, ‘what is that price?’
Well, factoring in his age and his contract status, he’s 28 and only contracted through the 2026-27 season, so both of those work against his valuation as far as United are concerned.
But, he is one of the very best players in the Championship, and should still have at least three/four of his best years ahead of him.
Therefore, with all of that considered, a fair market price for Hamer should Everton wish to do business this summer probably sits between the £15-20million mark.
