Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall almost secured a point for the Toffees against West Ham, but a loss instead allows for some stern words on his performance.

The Toffees travelled back from the London Stadium with nothing as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side scored a stoppage-time winner through Callum Wilson to seal the game.

David Moyes hopes to lead the Blues into a spot for European football, and though the loss is a setback, Dewsbury-Hall is a big reason for them still being in contention.

However, the Englishman’s overall game was poor despite his nearly heroic goal against West Ham on Saturday.

Dewsbury-Hall has been key for Everton this season, but that doesn’t allow him to excuse the poor statistics that he put up last weekend.

Dewsbury-Hall was called “daft” for a rugby-like restart against West Ham, but that wasn’t the only unusual aspect of his game.

For most of the season, the 27-year-old has been one of David Moyes’ best players, and has been in with a shout of winning Everton’s player of the campaign award. But he didn’t show that against West Ham.

As seen in the table above, Dewsbury-Hall offered little apart from his goal. He had a pass accuracy of 79 per cent, with a zero per cent cross completion rate.

He made just one accurate long ball out of five, and though he made 10 defensive contributions, none of which were significant.

Not only that, but he won just 17 per cent of his ground duels and lost both of his aerial duels. Not good enough.

Barring the goal, it was up there for one of his worst performances of the season.

Dewsbury-Hall unlikely to get England call-up; here’s why

There have been some suggestions that Thomas Tuchel should call Dewsbury-Hall up for England’s squad that travels to North America this summer for the World Cup.

While James Garner could very well be on the plane this summer, Dewsbury-Hall’s chances of doing so would need a mircale to work in his favour.

His numbers for the Toffees are consistent, and that could tempt Tuchel into picking him for the squad, but that choice may only come about if another England star suddenly becomes injured.

That’s not to say that the attacking midfielder won’t ever represent the Three Lions, but this summer would be a bit of a stretch, unless he took his game to the next level.
