Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sends Everton message after controversial WWE-style foul in Man City clash
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was left unhappy about Everton not receiving a penalty when Bernardo Silva hauled Merlin Rohl to the ground in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City.
The Blues led Pep Guardiola’s side heading into the final stages of the game, but goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku secured a point for the visitors.
David Moyes will have been furious at VAR’s decision not to award the Toffees a penalty when Silva brought Rohl to the ground in the 86th minute.
The Blues were leading 3-2 at the time, and a spot-kick would have surely wrapped the game up before Doku’s stoppage-time leveller.
Jack Grealish spoke to Michael Oliver after the game, and it was most likely over frustrations around this particular incident, which Dewsbury-Hall wasn’t too happy about.

What did Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall say?
Grealish may have been frustrated about the extra time that Oliver and his officials gave for Man City to then go on and score the equaliser.
It was particularly hard to take, considering the win would have had Everton two points better off with three games left in their quest to qualify for Europe.

Taking to Instagram, Dewsbury-Hall suggested that the official’s verdict on Silva “looking at the ball” was false.
The 27-year-old also included WWE’s superstar Brock Lesnar’s theme tune, hinting that the Man City player manhandled Rohl.
But that would be a spot-on assessment, as the decision not to give Everton the spot kick was truly shameful.
As Dewsbury-Hall suggests, Silva made no attempt to win the ball and just tried to unlawfully stop Rohl from heading in.
To add to this, the Toffees have only been awarded seven penalties in total since the start of the 2023-24 season, it’s a joke.
How did Dewsbury-Hall play?
Everton were always going to have to set up rather negative against City, as Moyes was keen to stress the dififuclt of the opponents before the game.
Everyone knows what Man City are fighting for, but Everton were deserving of the win. Due to Guardiola’s playstyle, Dewsbury-Hall had to play a more defensive role against the visitors.
- Dewsbury-Hall played 89 minutes
- He had just 26 touches
Dewsbury-Hall made just seven successful passes in the match, and all three of his shots were off target.
He did win 42 per cent of his 12 ground duels, but didn’t look his best due to the understandable demands asked of him.
Let’s hope the Englishman can hit top form, with Europe not out of the equation just yet.
