Everton clause to impact Newcastle United exit call on Anthony Gordon

Everton could reportedly have a say in whether Anthony Gordon stays or leaves Newcastle United this summer.

Gordon has been strongly linked with a Newcastle exit in recent weeks, with Bayern Munich said to be particularly interested.

Fellow Premier League clubs, plus another European heavyweight in Barcelona, have also been credited with an interest.

The England international joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 in an initial £40million deal worth up to £45m with add-ons included.

And Everton also included a sell-on clause in that agreement, which could now pay dividends if Gordon departs Newcastle.

Newcastle to consider Everton sell-on clause in any Anthony Gordon sale

The fact Everton have a sell-on clause in Gordon’s Newcastle contract is not exactly new information.

Indeed, former scout Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News that the clause will likely be set at a minimum of 20 per cent.

Should Gordon leave Newcastle for £70m, say, that would therefore mean Everton receiving around £14m – a nice little payout.

As per Craig Hope via the Daily Mail, Newcastle are taking this into consideration with regards to any sale this summer.

Right now, Gordon seems more likely to depart than stay at St James’ Park in terms of personal preference, but Newcastle’s stance may differ.

Anthony Gordon Everton to Newcastle fee

A £56m fee, rather than £70m, does not sound quite as enticing.

Gordon is said to want to depart on good terms if he does go, with the forward having just a few games to do so as he recovers from an injury layoff.

Gordon could bring smiles to Everton supporters’ faces

Any money Everton bring in through Newcastle’s sale of Gordon will go down as profit and can be put straight back into the squad.

Whether it is £12m, £14m or anything higher, that is no small change.

Everton are already being linked to numerous players, many of whom are in the mid-range price bracket.

Any additional funds the Friedkins can bring in would be very much welcome as they look to spend within the Merseyside club’s means.

Gordon is far from liked in these parts, but he could yet bring a few smiles to supporters’ faces in the next few weeks.
